Hallo all Got his Lux no 1 last year and finally got some time to fettle it, This is my first stove with an external NRV. Stove came like this no cleaning done. Cannot have seen much use. The burner is a silent burner from Primus. Not original. Hex nut is marked SA. Replaced NRV pip and tanklid washer. Pumpleather was ok just needed some oil. After preheat stove fired right up and burned quite well until the pump handle started moving outwards. There's a leak somewhere in the NRV tubing and I'm not sure where to begin. Does one desolder NRV side first ? Bjørn
Hi @boknasild . With an external NRV I would advise that you do not un-solder anything until you have read this post and the links: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/external-nrv-svea-14-pressure-loss.35037/#post-360605 Best
@boknasild these are excellent strong stoves, well worth putting the work into. The issue with the pump, however, may be to do with the seating of the new NRV pip rather than anything worse. I would investigate that first, before resorting to anything drastic! There is a recent thread that has collected a lot of useful info and links regarding this very issue (LINK). I'd have a good look through all of that first, give the pip seating area a good check over and clean, and then maybe try a good quality cork pip in place of a relatively hard modern rubber if that is what is in now; and see if that makes any difference. Basically try everything before resorting to any attempt at de-soldering! These are not easy systems to disassemble and even worse to reconstruct - learnt the hard way(HERE)! Good luck, Ian
@kerophile @igh371 Thanks for the advice gentlemen. I will check the NRV pip and spring tomorrow again tomorrow. If cork is the better material here I have collected a few wine corks that can be used. bjørn
Hello Finally I had some free time and could check the external NRV on my Lux no 1. I'm a happy man now. Thanks to the good advice from @kerophile and @igh371 , my Lux no 1 stopped filling the pump tube with kerosene. Burned a full tank without problems. I made some cork pips from Mendoza wine bottle corks and ordered coil springs from ebay. No leaks from the external NRV now. The old spring was rusty and weak.. I notice that the corkscrew tool damage the corks. Has anybody tried the ones that pump air into the bottle through a needle? Less damage here. Brgds Bjørn
re: corkscrew alternatives, I've used this kind successfully. I've seen someone manage to push a cork into the bottle with one of these, but with care they work well. There's no damage to the center of the cork, and a minimal amount to the edges. ....Arch
