I have a few coleman Sportster stoves I want to give to friends but they need generators, problem is by the time I buy a generator its getting expensive Any one know of a easy fix for a cheap source of generators?
Are they fouled up? Not sure if you can do a heat and quench to dislodge the crusty bits. The early versions that had a throttle lever may have better luck disassembling. Best of luck, Andy
I'm not a fan of the quench part, as it can damage them, but burning and cleaning the generators extends the life. I rarely replace generators. Sometimes just running them for a while, too.
These generators clog up normally when you use regular petrol / gas because both ends do not heat up as quick as the centre of the generator, I put the stove back onto white fuel / panel wipe, then power the stove up using a gas torch to heat the generator, after a tank or two of fuel has gone through normally the generator will start to unblock itself
If they can be disassembled you can clean up the inside .17 caliber bore brush and wipe down the coil to clean it. If they are really gunked up I throw them into my sonic cleaner with brass cleaning solution until they can be disassembled and scrubbed out.
