This stove is made in England and is very similar to my veritas duo burn.

Not much in common with the 533 of today.

A very nice stove. Is it about the size of an Optimus or Primus 96?

Nice. I'd rather have this 533 than the modern pile of metal, if you can call it that.

Hi HJ. The same size as the 96.

I also forgot to mention the flame plate has has the makers name ground off. I guess this was done to remove the original brand in the factory.

I think it was Coleman in name only, and therefore they had to grind the real manufacturers name off. I'm sure it was some kind of agreement to use Coleman's distribution channels even the stove itself was anything but Coleman.

    Nice stove.

    Hi John

I got lucky really, my auto bid only went for one more dollar. It will be the last stove I buy for a long time.

Hi HJ There are plenty of Coleman Solus stove made in England too.

    Hi Big BTU

It burns perfectly, it is the first stove I have had in yonks that did not need any fettling...

The other stove is a hasag 00 (same size as a primus 210 optimus 00)

I think "Coleman" was just a brand of convenience. They were Monitor (or whoever) stoves that someone plastered a Coleman sticker on. I believe it was just for distribution purposes. That's my theory anyway.

More likely a licensing deal. Coleman wanted a kero stove The brithish stove maker wanted to sell in USA. A deal was struck then noone bought. It happened with a few cars as well but the british never understood the desires of the American motorist and cars that were fine everywhere else in the world wouldnt sell there

I believe the Anglo-American collaboration was aimed at the Australian (& possibly the New Zealand given where this find originates) market. All the literature I have seen suggests this.

I have had a couple of solus stoves which where nicely embossed with "Coleman Solus made in England". I did not know that the rest of the world had did not have these Colemans. When I see a Coleman with made in England on it I know it will be a great stove because they don't have check valves (which are, for me anyway, bloody annoying).
