The early MSR stoves, models 9, G, MF and GK all had sparker units mounted in the enclosure. In the U.K. in the early 1980’s Field & Trek (for non Brits this is a well know UK climbing and outdoor store) sold MSR stoves, maintainance kits etc. One of the MSR extras was a spare sparker unit. It came in a plastic bag with the MSR white mountain on black background logo. As you will note, there is a hidy hole for a spare flint.
Coleman still makes those, Coleman 829B705T Lantern Spark Lighter. Coghlan's makes those as well, http://www.coghlans.com/products/lantern-lighter-503a Murph
Hi Murph, That is very useful information. I clicked on your link for Coglans but didn't find a price so typed in Coleman lantern lighter into Google and find them for less than $5 on Ebay! that is great for those that don't have one and want to fit one to the MSR XGK. Thanks again for publicising that Murph. Cheers, Rob
Glad I could be of help, Rob! I usually take mine and remove the knob, and then file a flat on the shaft, keeps the knob from slipping, both off the shaft and while turning. I'll also replace the screw with a 4-40 steel screw, lasts longer, and less aggro when you need to loosen or tighten it! Murph
