I am making a heat shield for my Primus 41, similar to the one of @boknasild shown here.

    My question is:

Is there any reason why I should not make it a bit longer and allow it sit on the filler cap, rather than have a cut out to expose the filler cap?

My thinking is that a longer shield will provide better heat protection for the tank...

    Comments welcome.

Why do you need heat protection on the outside of the tank? You only need it on the nearest part of the tank to the burner.
It is easier to refill if you need to do that without of lifting the heat shield up.
At least this is my thinking.

    Hi Tony
I have used big pans on my P 41 roarer and there has never been any issues like the tank getting too hot.

If you need any measurements of the heat shield I might have some drawings that I sent to Rangie a year ago.
I can check when I come home.

    Hi Alec

Checked and found I missed by one month. We exchanged emails around 20th of January this year.
Did your P 41 heat shield project work out ok ?

Hi Tony, I use a lot my Primus 41, mostly for coffee with a expresso on it, a 4 cup size. Never have I had problems with the tank overheating.
As you know the tank is outside the box when set up, so it's ok. A big but is if a big pan or frying pan goes on that can go over the tank, so in that case I don't know. I think with this small stove a little discression on pan size may be needed . A heat deflector can't be a bad thing though. Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out.

    Cheers

Ahem, I should exercise my right to silence.... But no, @boknasild Bjorn I did not, only poor excuses to give

The interim solution is to use smaller pans...... :p

Tony, a good result, now can use larger pans and kettle. The 41 will become one of your faverets.

Hi Alec, Ever since coming across your photo of the small pan over your Primus 41, I have been trying to source such a small pan but have not been successful. A couple of questions: (1) Is it 5 1/2 in X 5 1/2” ? (2) What brand or make is it? Many thanks. Andrew
