I haven't finished reading your review but so far looks pretty good.
You mention using HEET as fuel in an alcohol stove. A good alternate is to buy alcohol in the 1 gallon cans at most paint or home builder supply stores. Alcohol is usually in the paint section near solvents and is typically priced at less than $8 per gallon which is a bit less per ounce than your lowest price for HEET. I am not sure if it is meth, eth or iso, but it works well in my Trangia. It soots less if mixed about 10% water to alcohol. the smaller quart and pint cans of alcohol come in handy as a reusable convenient size fuel can for the future.
BTW definitely never ever try to refule an alky stove while lit. Duh. I stupidly assumed the reading I did a few years back about alcohol stoves being so safe to use that I foolishly refilled a stove while lit. While the bottle was over the stove the flame got into the bottle and acted like a jet, spewing flaming alcohol out of the bottle. At best I might refule a lit alcohol stove with a turkey baster type device but would not do it unless I was desperate.
FWIW,
