richly burning stove

Response to What about Opti 00 roarers?

I have a similar problem with british, pint-sized kero burners, RM and Veritas.

Both seem to produce rich flames, and I have posted about it many threads ago. A good professor informed us boys what the problem was, and suggested how to fix it.

My RM came with little use, with shiny, untouched brass and clean interior of the tank. But its jet was pointing off center, and its fuel stream will hit off center of the plate: most of the flame will shoot out to one side. I thought about heating the U-tube and bending the jet while hot, but decided against it.

As I pump up the stove hard, the concentration of the flame seems to wanter, and at high pressure, the flame points less off center than at low pressure.

I also shaved off 2 mm from the bottom of the guide ring, but no remarkable change in the air/fuel mixture. It can be used only outdoors. Since it can boil with no problem, I will have to live with it.

As for 8Rs, I have no problems with any of what I own. Some came in various degrees of disrepair, while others came in unused state (they will stay that way). But once corrected, not a single one failed to produce optimus (pun intended) flame, and now I am a great fan of 8R (or 99 or any other siblings).

Only Brunton needs to slash the price of midi pump in half!
