Hi ,
i have a A/B BA HJORTH&CO Primus no 405.Silent burner and the tank is made of steel.Fixed legs and about 1.5 -2 pint tank.
It has V with 17 underneath it in a circle under tank. Would anybody know the year of manufacture?and are these stoves rare or not?
It works very well and a good stove for my collection
Thanks
Dave

Primus No. 405

From the beginning Primus manufactured a wide range of products, especially after 1918. One of their options for many of the domestic stoves (at least up to WW II) was a steel version of the more popular versions, the steel version being designated by a 40 prefix (so, No. 401 was the steel version of the standard brass No. 1, No. 405 the steel version of the No. 5). If you look at some of the Primus catalogues on this site you'll see the various steel versions. The Nos. 401 and 405 were designed for maximum strength and durability (steel being much tougher than brass), while the interiors of the tanks were treated with rust preventative. Further info is available in the 1922 catalogue No.836 on this site.

Primus Stove before 1911

August 26 2003, 2:35 PM

I picked up a Primus #1 stove with no date stamp on it. This stove was made before 1911. Does any one want it. The filler cap is more modern and the pump plundger is not the old original part. I have 2 or 3 others here so I don't need this one. Untested but I will get it working. Albert
