Coleman 502 vs 501March 29 2004 at 2:15 PM | Chuck |
| Hello,
Can anyone tell me why Coleman stopped manufacturing the 501 stove with the round generator? I read that for safty concerns Coleman stopped manufacturing them and switched to the 502 with the generator that runs across the burner.

Chuck shortly after introducing the 501 Coleman saw big problems with the 501.It seems the round generator was a bad design and had problems vaporizing fuel. The warranty complaints lead to Coleman offering a 502 to any customer that wanted to loose the 501.Even up.That is why 501's are so collectable. Coleman bought back and scraped the majority of them. Dan |

Dan,
Hey! I was hoping you would reply. Seems as though you are the resident Coleman authority.
Glad to hear that it is a vaporising problem and not a comming apart and explosion problem. I picked up one with wiskers and plan to break it down and repaint it. Just wanted to see if the problems were life threatening.

Chuck I had a complete crash on Friday and had to format the drive.I am still not up to speed on virus protection.I am trying to limit my time on the internet until I can get my replacment downloads from Norton. Just remember that 501 Gen. is very hard to come by and expensive. Otherwise it is a very sought after stove amongst Coleman Collectors who want the complete 500 series. Dan | |
