svea 123R Hiker woes

Hi All,

My question is as follows. I have a Optimus Svea 123R Hiker and I've been trying to replace the cleaning needle. I followed the instructions on needle replacement and while the stove does not leak liquid fuel it does ignite after priming without opening the burner (small pilot like flame). My question is, a. should I be concerned about this, and b. if so how do I adjust the needle so that this doesn't occur. I'm at my wits end since I have tried to adjust the needle a lot of times and I just don't seem to be able to get it right. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks

Roland

Needle timing

Hello,
Replacing the cleaning needle will make you insane unless you know the trick. First take off the nipple and turn the spindle until the needle falls out. Then without the needle in place close the spindle all the way. Then place the needle back inside the valve (with the spindle still closed) then turn the spindle slowly until 4 teeth click past. Rotate the spindle back down and the needle should seat inside the housing. Repalce the nipple and try and light the stove. You should now have the needle in time with the spindle. If 4 clicks doesn't work try 5.

IE when the needle valve is all the way down the spindle has closed off the fuel supply. When you turn the spindle the other way fuel will flow to the nipple. Turn it a bit more and the needle will clean the nipple. But, too much and it will extinguish the flame.
