| After working a night shift at the hospital Wednesday night, I set off for a dental appointment in Cardiff this morning (Thursday). Saw the tooth fairy and did a bit of shopping in a couple of camping/outdoor shops in the Welsh capital. Talk about price differences!
Coleman Fuel was £4.99 in both (one was out of stock, but I did get a can which my Primus 71 and Stesco are grateful for).
Aladdin unsulated mugs, £2.99 in one store, £1.50 in the other (had to buy two at that price).
Asked for burning paste in both shops, was offered an "eco friendly" gel burner in one for £5.99 (like an old "Tommy Cooker") and got a blank look when I told one lad it was used to prime kero stoves,,,,,,the sales assistant asked if I meant meths "cos thats what we use in Trangias and that" and "gas stoves is best cos you just lite um"
Had my first look at the Mini Trangia,,,,, whats the point,,,, take a flask on your walk.
Both shops were full of students from the local university, looking and perhaps buying hi tech clothes to pose in; it appears the local "outdoor" shop is now becoming a fashion centre.
Thank goodness we have a site like this, where we can get good, solid advise. Sorry about the moan, but its taken my mind of an painfull tooth.

Seen it for £6.75 in Up and Under (West of Cardiff centre in Cowbridge road). Its £3.75 in the Range (Newport Road, East of the City Centre). The Range also has the cheapest meths at 99p in the hardware section and £1.59 in the camping section (figure that out)

Tried that stuff for priming my stoves, not good. It does not burn as hot as Meths and leaves a residue. Dont buy.

I suppose the thinking goes something like, 'If they can afford to go off on camping holidays instead of staying at home and DIY-ing, they can afford an extra 60p. on a bottle of meths.'
