| CO2 pressurizers | April 16 2004, 6:57 PM |
We had an extended discussion about these pressurizers some many moons ago. Apparently they do work, though there is controversy about their classic status! Enter "co2" in Search and the old
discussion can be found. |

| Work well, but...... | April 17 2004, 2:12 PM |
Indeed, these do work well. However, be aware there are 2 distant types available. One is designed to inflate bicycle tyres and can achieve pressures up to 60 - 100 lbs. psi.- it will easily popthe needle right off the scale of your Petromax.
The other type, designed for lantern lights, has a pressure relief valve. It is designed so your don't overfill your lantern - much safer.
I believe the ones you point to on EBay would be of the proper design. |

| Old Bear is still around | April 19 2004, 11:01 PM |
Thanks Ed!
I'm sorry but as of late I've been having some health problems with the old
BP and sugar.
Meanwhile, back at Lockheed, where I've worked for almost 30 years, has
really been keeping me hopping around. The 60 lbs. of camera equipment isn't
as light as it used to be, and after 10 and 12 hour days, beginning at 5:30,
I pretty well shot by day's end.
Certainly, my interest in the old burners is still there and I look at the posts when ever I get a chance.
Got a couple nice stoves recently - a Handi Quickboil from our dear friend
Albert in oz land. Wow, he refurbished it like new.
Also got a new Meva from Sportmansguide - they marked them down to $59 and I
just couldn't control myself any longer.
I hope all of you are doing well and always look forward to reading those wonderful
postings - so many from you! |

Hi.
There are those simple 3/4 inch diameter pipe style air pumps that work well.
Personaly I've yet to try it. However I've seen it adapted to a
standard coleman suitcase stove. A couple pumps and it's presurized.
Granted the pipe pump is long, but it is light.
I don't believe it would be practicle in restrospect to CO2
presurizers, but if you use those inflatable suported tents it's alredy available.
The only downfall I can see is the possibility of fuel entering the pump even if there is a foot valve present.
However if your small stove's pump is properly maintained there is no real need for constant presure untill the fuel level get's realy low.
For lanterns the CO2 presurizer is a good idea.
