    Dieselkocher quick lighter.

What: Male thread of this nut.
    HG-Stove.jpg

I measured the major diameter at .570 inch.
    I measured 3 threads at .120 inch (.120 / 3 = .04 pitch)
If not metric --- a little big for a 9/16-25. So NOT.

    If Metric:
    M14x1 --- Maj Dia 13.974/13.794 mm = .550/.543 inch (Too small)
    M15x1 --- Maj Dia 14.974/14.794 mm = .5895/.582 inch (Too big)

    Logic tells me M14.5x1.
Assume: Maj Dia 14.474/14.394 mm = .5707/.5667 (Theororetical?)
1 mm pitch is .0393 inch.

Am I off on this? It has been many years since I did this and the rust and cobwebs are in the way.

    Reason:
After rebuilding this stove I found a leak. A slow leak. Not enough to show in a dunk test, but overnight the pressure would be gone.
I tightened the nut on the quick lighter and it slipped past. Uh-Oh!! (Not the words I actually used)
A few of the male threads are torn. The nut will not tighten anymore.
I swear I did not cross thread it. I am 90% sure I did not do that.
I do not see thread lock residue on the threads.

I do not want to remove the soldered (brazed?) fitting and replace.
I am thinking a cap, with a viton seal, may seal it.

    Next step:
    Measure pitch diameter with wires.

    @snwcmpr

Our colleague (@Rodger Willows) would also like to know the answer to that question as he is thinking of removing the "quick starter" and blocking off the thread.

    Cheers

Tony is correct in my wanting to know as I am planning to remove the "blow torch"...
Pitch is definitely 1mm (measured with a pitch gauge and I measure the outer diameter as 14.78mm with the vernier.
I am currently working on a Primus 71 and conveniently the fuel tank lid would appear to fit (when I eventually prize the charcoaled residual seal from under it).
I've ordered a 15 x 1 mm bottom tap with a view to getting a local machine shop to knock up a cap for me...
    Keep me posted!

So, I think 9/16, .5625, is too small.

And since the H-G is Made in Germany - I think you guys can safely exclude any risk of it being an Imperial measure thread. Much less risk: It being an old unique Swedish in-house thread used by Primus, Optimus, Radius and the like. And then used by the Germans as well for their interpretation of the old Swedish craft of constructing / designing pressurised kerosene stoves and lanterns.

Might be something for our Afterburning Finnish friend to investigate?

Standard thread size and nut across flats measurements tend to go hand in hand. So what does the nut measure A/F?
Are there any markings on the nut? I work in an industry where this type of fitting has yet to go metric because they are bought in from USA.
    Regards

Thank you. I await the reply from Heinze.

I will look for a nut that I can make a cap from.

Next, I will look for a replacement part for that attachment. It looks like solder/brazing to fix it.

    Hello Ken,
here the answer of Peter Heinze:

    "Sehr geehrter Herr Pfeiffer,

das Gewinde ist in der Tat M15x1. Benötigen Sie irgendetwas in dieser Richtung?

    Freundliche Grüße/Kind regards/Med venlig hilsen/Saludos/Salutations,

I will contact Heinze and ask for the part, and inquire of other parts.

Anyone in the USA that would like me to get parts for these.

I am sure the bulk of items I get in one shipment from Germany would save a bit. Then low cost shipping to US addresses.

    I sent this:
I hope the translation is adequate.

Quick lighter closing pip started to leak and I removed whole quick lighter closing lever, that included nozzle/jet removal. I got pip replaced and reassembled whole thing. I tested quick lighter but it sprayed liquid kerosene instead of atomized kerosene.

I was too tired to troubleshoot quick lighter since I have not used it almost at all and I decided to remove it. I made blank cap from brass hex bar to close quick lighter tank coupling. I made M15x1 thread into cap. It is a bit loose so I put some ptfe tape to tank coupling before I turned cap onto it. (Also I made seal from fuel resistant rubber into cap and put it onto bottom of threads before I turned cap onto tank coupling.)

I tested the stove, now it works fine and no possible worries with quick lighter anymore. On my winter travels & camping I have used propane torch to pre-heat burner, but I think that I should add a wick for methylated spirit usage as few members have done to their Heinze Kocher.

I have to look about photos of it.

My plan is to make wind shield also even mostly I use the stove inside of tent. I looked that this thread has examples how some members have made wind shield & wick to their BW / KL Kocher: Homemade Windshield for Heinze Geniol

[I suppose that KL (Koninklijke Landmacht) is correct abbreviation for Dutch military/army. If some one knows better/correct abbreviation please correct me!]
