Recieved a Primus 100 today, a first for me. Replaced the filler cap seal and fired it up first time; Wanted to replace the NRV but it will not undo so its had WD40 and see how that goes (the old NRV is still working). Cleaned a bit of the lacquer off the tanks with acetone, came off easy so the stove will be lacquer free in in a tank to clean it up. Now, its all there but has two tubes with it, any ideas what for or just in the box by mistake? great stove and I only paid three pints for it (thats £10 for our American members)
Hi Richard @rik_uk3 . Whatever those two tubes are for, they are not required on an operating No.100 stove. Really nice acquisition and nice to have the silent damper. Did a roarer flame-plate come with the No.100 too? Best Regards, Kerophile.
I did'nt think the tubes were needed but thought I'd check. It came with standard Primus instructions and two packs of un-opened pricks, one pack of open prickers and written on the packet 'too big for this stove' nice to have the box as well. No date stamp on the stove base so its knocking on in years. Needs a new leather and I'd like to get the NRV free. I'd like a new lipstick tube at some time just as a spare.
Not pre-1911 and after the end of date stamping on the stove bottom plate, so post-1964. Knocking on in years nevertheless.
Hi Richard, your Pr.100 looks like an AB Bahco model made just before the formation of the Primus Trading Co. Have a good look for a six digit dating code. From 1955 Primus changed their year coding, and used a six digit number, the last two digits corresponding to the manufacturing year. This stamp is often found on a foot, burner riser tube, or pump barrel of the stove, depending on model. The burner of my 1959 Pr100 stove was also "dated" 1959, which is nice. This marking was on the hex section. I reckon your stove is the sister of this 1959 Primus 100: Primus 100/4128 - 1959 AB BAHCO The very last AB Bahco No 100 s from 1960 and 1961 had different arrangements for the reserve cap. What fun! Hi Richard, lipsticks being hard to find, you might want to consider this approach to an alternative burner:
This lipstick is working fine and I've still got a few roarer stoves so I want to keep it original where I can. There are some made in S.Korea listed as suitable for the 96 97 for about £28 delivered, not sure if it will fit, the last 'lipstick' stove I had went years ago. I've been going through the stoves I have left and the sheer reliability of these old stoves is astounding. I've checked my remaining six 111 and they all but one worked, cleaning needle is shot in one and I'm having a hell of a job getting the jet off LOL. I'm coming up to 65 and these stoves have lingered in the shed for the six years we've been in the new house, some not touched in a decade or more. I'm enjoying playing with them and their next fettle for the most part will be when I hit 70 (but I'll pack them away better this time). I'll keep a couple in the radio shack for brews and a bacon banjo Thanks for the replies.
One thing I liked about hitting 70 was that at least I made my three-score-and-ten. Now, of course, each additional birthday is good!
Is this correct one at Fogas?: http://fogas.se/shop/2773---braennare--till-100/ If I understand text after table on that page correctly it has text 'Sievert/Svea' (on flame spreader I assume). So not original Optimus, but it should work and on lipstick itself there is no manufacturer name.
I interpret things the same way as you do. But the best is of course to just simply send an e-mail to Conny at Fogas and ask. That way there won't be any mistakes.
Also they can confirm if they have that burner on stock (sometimes web pages of shops are not updated so well/often; this is just general comment not related to Fogas).
Thanks for the replies. I've had a couple of problems. I wanted to fit a new NRV when the old one failed but it just won't budge. I got it working with the help of a large paper clip. Second, the lipstick just won't budge either, the stove is working but I'd like to be able to break the stove down for storage. I'll get there in the end. Today after getting the NRV working (for now I suspect)
Penetrating oil and patience... penetrating oil down the pump tube and all around the threads of the lipstick. Wait a few days. Cheers Tony
