I wondered what you good people think of my harness carry solution for my Primus 41 with no handle. I still intend making a basic bent wire handle but the harness will still be needed to keep the stove closed. Its made of finest Sedgwick bridle leather, the same leather I use to make belts. Original post here 1954 Primus 41 roarer.
Absolutely a outstanding bit of work on your part, and you should be right chuffed with your accomplishment!!
'right chuffed' - not originally from Oldham, England are you Murph? I am quite pleased with the solution. Regards Rob.
Nice leatherwork, but I think your time would have been better spent with a pair of pliers and half a yard of steel wire.
@Ian I'm going to give that a go but the 41 handle looks quite a precise and complicated item to make.
Hi @Robert Radcliffe . If you were to make a replacement handle to the original pattern the case will be closed and secure with the handle in the upright carry position. The semi-circular terminations of the handle engage and secure in the case lid. Image courtesy of S. Molson: Best Regards, Kerophile.
@kerophile yes I have a complete 41 with wire handle, I was intending making a simpler version of the handle, more like that on a 111, doubting my ability to make the semi circular parts precisely enough. In which case the harness would still be needed. My silent burner 41.
Hi @Robert Radcliffe . You have so many lovely stoves.... Wire is cheap and you are likely a much better wire-bender than you believe. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Thank you kind Sir. I'm lucky enough to have a wife that tolerates my many obsessions and to have found a few nice stoves over the years. As to the wire bending I am hopeful but not confident. Best wishes Rob.
@Robert Radcliffe , I'm a Yank, through and through, but I spend far more time watching the Beeb via Britbox, American TV shows and the like are hitting the bottom of the barrel these days! On a good day, I can pass for a Brit, or a recent transplant from Dublin - makes for fun on St Paddy's Day, don't have to spend a tuppence on stout or single malt for the night, or go home alone, for that matter (when I was young and single!). Been doing this for donkeys, and the ladies don't know I'm feeding 'em porkies all night long! Murph
