Hi I have s 111b im tidying up and the tank shield is slightly pitted in areas.....can I polish this up or will it damage the plating.....or is it stainless?
You have already got that looking pretty nice. I polished mine up a bit the pits and discolouring remain for ever unless its re-plated.
It was pretty bad Geoff.....it'll get worse now as I've probably taken some plating off. Never mind, its just cosmetic..... the pot support legs are pretty rough, wouldn't mind new ones.....thanks Geoff
@William Ritchie thank you so much for the link to that video. I think I will definately look at getting set up myself.
@john watson , @Geoff Chrinside , There are many other tutorials on the same subject . Nickel , Copper , Zinc , electrolytes are all made by the same method . If you are going plate steel with copper , nickel plating first is advised . Good stuff , I have done many firearm parts this way . I have an Optimus 80 tin that I am going to try to Nickel but need to get it soda blasted first , should yield a satin finish , I Hope. WR
, In the video I was surprised to see the uncovered hands . In actual practice I would advise gloves . Just saying . Good Luck have fun with it . WR
