Hello guys, I added a new stove to my collection. It is a Coleman 523 from 1944. I got it in an army bag from the same year. Can someone tell me if this army bag is original en belongs to this stove? The bag is stamped Kadin 1944. Is it possible that the stove was put into this bag to carry it easier? Has someone of you saw this more often? I want to try to restore this stove. Regards, Milco
I've two of these stoves; one Coleman and the other manufacturer escapes me at present. Both came with two-part windshields and both housed in hinged metal cases which double as containers for boiling water or whatever. I've always seen these in such metal cases and never in bags. That doesn't mean they never did, of course...
Milco: Very nice stove, robust and restorable. You can probably straighten the pump shaft with some light blows from a hammer on an anvil face. Tap the high spots gently and keep turning the shaft until straight. Avoid hitting the threaded end... The bag / pack is the M1944 Pack, Field, Cargo issued by the US Army late in WWII. The extra buckles are for strapping beneath the M1944 Pack, Combat. Yours looks to be quite authentic. They are a nice, robut piece of gear. I would recommend keeping them together. The pack is large enough for some food, extra fuel, etc. Nice find. Paul
Hello everyone, I started to undo all the parts. I first made a peace of equipment, all by myself and that worked out well. See pictures. I already removed the paint from its frame and tomorrow I want to repaint it. And Paul I will keep it all, stove and bag, together! Does someone know where I can buy rivets, I want to use them after removing the instruction plates. Regards, Milco
