Hi all - I didn't see a 'new members' or 'welcome' forum, so thought I'd just post here. I had no interest in camp stoves until I found a Coleman 400B Peak1 stove (in the box) at a thrift shop for $2.99 in May. This was shortly after a 4 day desert backpacking trip I took in March, during which I wished I'd brought a stove, but didn't have one. Since buying that 400b (1989 manufacture) I have found & bought a 425F dual burner for $5 ('80), a 414 (1989, in the box still) for $30, a BRAND NEW never used 400A ('87, in the box) for $15, and today a 425E dual burner ('78) and a 526 single burner ('79) for $20 each. I joined because I kept running across this site every time I'd look up information on a new stove. So what causes this addiction - surely one or two stoves should be enough??

Now you'll be able to say with all truth the voices really did tell you they all have to burn...probably because you have been Skyping with someone here. There is a fearsome amount of know how hereabouts. I have a Coleman 404 bushman that gets used about 3 times a years for group cook outs, the rest of my stuff is mostly Swedish.

Welcome, So far you only exhibit early symptoms of the disease - Colemania. The next stage comes when you discover vintage brass stoves, primarily of Swedish descent - Primus, Optimus, Radius et al. Sounds like you haven't contracted the other part of the disease, picking up those "good deals" on the 1003 varieties of Coleman lanterns. After you have those, you can start on the other makers out that from all over the whirl. Welcome, Bob
Welcome aboard! I have stopped asking why, and just go quietly about my business, looking around for the stove that I just have to have next. Since I don't smoke, drink, gamble, or chase skirts, I have to have some kind of vice right? I'd say our lady loves are pretty lucky our is so mild. Explosive, perhaps, at times, but otherwise mild.
Thanks for the welcome everybody! I haven't gotten into the lanterns yet, though I've been tempted. I already have a half dozen LED lanterns and about 50 flashlights so I haven't rationalized a reason for getting a gas lantern...yet
I only started in July I now have 11 at that rate its going to be about 44 a year. Help! I may have to seriously consider selling some on.
Good golly, don't look at any of the brassies or alcohol stoves, or ultra-lights, etc. Then you'll REALLY be in trouble!
Every stove I bought must have had a seller too. I actually bought 3 or 4 stoves from CCS members. Last one is an Enders 9061 which I am beginning to get addicted to. I am contemplating selling one of mine. Yonadav
It's gotten worse. I just picked up two more tonight and was looking at a 1930s Handy Gas Plant for $50. The two I got were new in the box, never used - $25 for both: Coleman Sportster II 533 = $15 Greatland Single Burner propane stove = $10
the sportsters are still sold new in New Zealand Dont know the gas stove. Both sound a very good price. Your now collecting 2 fuel types Once you get your first Triangia Betty Ford might be able to help
I only picked up the propane stove because it was a package deal with the other - and someone gave me a dozen or so of the small propane canisters so I figured I might as well be able to make use of them.
