I am trying to refurbish an old M-1942. (Don't know which make.)
It is missing a part shown in the diagrams as "packing", that sits between the valve assembly and the generator.
Can somebody tell me how to make one? What material and what dimensions?

    Thanks,

    Yonadav

Contact Mike at He has repair kits for the M1942 and M1950 which will have all the parts you need for a complete overhaul. Good prices and excellent service.

    Thanks, Bill.

Anybody with details of the missing packing, so I can make one myself?

Good to hear from you @yonadav

You’re referring to the graphite packing in the control valve I guess.

That on mine was intact, but I’d have no hesitation in using the graphite sheet that Terry (Trojandog) sells. A strip can be rolled around the spindle and prodded in place with the tip of a thin screwdriver. The strip will no doubt break in rolling it but that doesn’t matter. A succession of inserted strip pieces, compressed each time by screwing down the packing nut, will gradually build up the depth of graphite required.

I am with CHB, one can pack graphite sheet or rope into the area and it will conform to the shape. Add more as needed.
    I use @Trojandog graphite sheets.

Thanks for the warm welcomes, friends.

I am referring to the disk shaped thing that Richard pointed in the photo. It is supposed to hold the generator in place on top of the valve body. Without it the generator is wobbly after you tighten the nut that has the primer cup on it.
I don't think graphite sheet or rope can do the job.

BTW, I cleaned enough soot off the stove and discovered that the one I have is made by Prentiss-Weber.

That does look like it is a machined piece of metal.
Someone with one might be able to give you dimensions.

I'd suggest posting a Want to Buy (WTB) thread over on the Coleman Collector Forum (CCF). That piece isn't part of the normal repair kit. There's a good chance that someone over on CCF will have one from stove that's been parted out that they will sell or give you. Use the picture that rickmay added the arrow to when you're asking on CCF.

Yep, that disk is made of steel and graphite won't work, unfortunately. Let me know if you are still in need of one to either use as an example to machine your own or for use. Contact me at my blog.
