Well I found my PW single burner. I don't see this variation on the Marsh website. No legs, no lid, tank is attached to stove differently, no holes. I just bought it so I don't have possession of it yet but here are the pics from evil bay. It does appear to say Wisconsin Rapids on the tag.
So read Ken's thread on his one burner and the quote mentions mine. I believe the quote is from Joe P.: As a footnote, from 1915 to 1921, the one burner PW stoves were designated Model 3. Starting in 1922 and ending in 1924, PW started using a skate key for fuel controls and introduced a larger 2-brnr stove with 8" grates. They called it a Model 3 and the 1-brnr was re-designated Model 4. ------- There were two versions of your Model 4. The earlier one had no legs, no top lid and the tank bracketry was or rather looked more beefy, using L-style brackets. The later version did have the top lid, strap legs and the tank brackets were inboard more, screwed into the stove body, like yours.
Howdy, Joebig, Ahhh, so you were the winner on that one! I was hoping to add it to my two-burner of a similar vintage, but your pockets were deeper than mine!! Well done, and I look forward to seeing the stove cleaned up, fettled as need, and working!! Congrats on your score, and thanks for sharing it here. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc (disappointed for his loss.... but happy for your gain!!)
Thanks Doc, more than I would have liked to pay too....LOL But as you know, we want what we want so had to pony up. My wife has a different opinion....lol
Well the good news is you got one, and not a common stove. More than I was willing to pay. Good for you.
Thanks Ken, yea when I was deciding what to bid I was hoping it would go between $100 and $200. But I would have kicked myself if I let $100 or so get in the way as they don't come around very often.
I'm glad you found one joebig! That is a very nice and rare No. 4. You've already made the key points about no legs, no lid, etc. Another great feature is the brass tank. All the ones I've seen have the steel tank. Yours will never rust. Both of mine have the steel tank. You also have a skate key which is only found on the 2 burner No. 3. To have both the No. 3 two burner and yours would be quite rare as they are probably of the same vintage. sam
very nice, so thats who got it. I missed the next generation model with lid a while back for 25 bucks, still crying over my loos. Looking forward to blue flames Jan
