This month it's...... shock, horror -- Gas Stoves!! In the interests of international clarity that's stoves fueled by gas cartridges. Butane, propane, a mix of both. Slight change to the rules. See below.

Post your nomination as a reply to this post.

    The rules.
    • Stove does not have to feature in the Stove Reference Gallery (SRG) but if you truly believe it's a classic, feel free to do so!
    • Maximum of 2 pictures in the entry. The pictures must show the stove working & in it's entirety. More pictures can of course be shown in a linked SRG entry - as many as you want!
    • Previous winning entries are excluded.
    • Stove must be presently owned by the member.
    • One entry per member.
This nominations post will be open for the month of May. At the end of the month (midnight BST) the post will be closed & the qualifying stoves placed in a blind poll for members to vote for. The poll will remain open for 1 week. Most votes is the winner.

The winner will get a SotM Winner notation on their posts & profile & a £10 voucher code from The Fettlebox. The winning stove will also be entered into the Stove of the Year vote the following January.

    Good luck & have fun

Lilor, in the Stove Reference Gallery HERE. The gas canisters were on an exchange basis, supplier network (France).

I'm pleasantly surprised. Only two stoves are entered so far, and they're both beauties -- very different from each other -- and I already feel challenged deciding which of just these two will get my vote, not to mention any additional stoves that get entered. :)

My RM Rambler gas stove. A canny transition from RM into the new, fangled gas market. It'll never catch on.

Good grief, three superb stoves, which to choose? Well it's not my choice but i pity the rest of you. Robert, I'd really like to know how that stove works. even like to use it a time or two just to work on it's function. It's a beautifull bit of engineering there.

Ross someone put a lot of thought into how to refill the base unit of that stove. I'm willing to bet they are rather thin on the ground. I do understand how it failed my scrutiny since it is definitely a GB item. Maybe some day I'll make the trip, I am supposed to have some years left as i understand it.

    Howdy, All,

WOW!! Some excellent Gassie stoves have been shared, already, and I'm reluctant to post anything. But, on our recent trip, we used quite a few stoves that were burning gas cartridges, and all of them worked a treat, and cooked up some delicious fare for Sweet Bride and me to enjoy. I'm going to go with our tried and true MSR Reactor this month, just for giggles and grins:

Here, Sweet Bride is cooking up a delicious sausage, onions, garlic, mushrooms, and tomato Basil sauce dinner, and yes, on the Reactor! Many have reported that this powerhose of a stove cannot cook delicately. Well the proof is in the pudding, Gentlemen and Ladies!! Not only did it boil up the pasta, it also cooked the rest of our dinner, too, and did great!

Thanks for checking our this amazing stove! It can do it all, as long as you don't walk away whilst it doing it!! (Remember, I melted the bottom out of the pot on our first Reactor, by doing that, and almost burned down my canvas tent!! YIKES! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

It’s an older model I think because of the blue handle, the aluminium insert and basic safety warning. It also has the brass burner. It still has its instructions and pricker.

A genuine shelf queen: I found it on a shelf in my garden shed; left by a previous owner, and it will probably stay there till we move!

    Hi Lance
I'll be totally honest I'm not entirely sure how it works. I have the original instructions as I bought the stove from new when they came out. If there is anything that might enlighten us I'll post it. That's if I can find the stove as a lot are in storage whilst we are having building work done.
I think flameless can't be true as you ignite the stove. In my simplistic way I've assumed a flame heats a ceramic honeycomb below the heatproof glass plate. That doesn't really explain the catalyst part though, perhaps others can shed some light.
@Spiritburner phew glad I didn't post my rambler (almost did), yours is a nicer example.

I remember when it came out. It never really took off, I think both the weight and the price + the fact that it was not really efficient worked against it. But very cool idea that MSR later improved radically with the Reactor.

@Lance I've posted the instructions now. Not much on how it works sadly just a reference to catalytic combustion technology!!

There maybe a clue to the catalyst element in the claim the of lower emissions. Perhaps like a car's catalytic convertor some harmful gases are converted to less harmful ones. The catalyst presumably being on the surface of the ceramic honeycomb.

@Staffan Rönn all valid points Staffan, the advantages simply didn't stack up against the disadvantages and why mine is virtually unused.

Gentlemen I've tried to fashion a statement to explain my understanding of what I'm being told and the best i can do is say, It's magic. I don't know how it works so it must be, Pure F*****g Magic in the vocabulary of some electronic techs i know, who don't know how it works just that it does and they can fix it if broken. I'm not thinking real clearly this morning and i'm going to blame it on the drugs i'm on. Whoo whee some of these pills are GREAT :-$ :-$ 8]8]8]

    "...shock, horror -- Gas Stoves!..."

Not in the reference gallery, nor a classic. This is the opposite - as new as it gets. This stove is just now out for first ever deliveries to dealers around the world. A double burner stove that folds down to the format of a large vacuum bottle, yet stable, powerful, fairly light weight and reasonably wind resistant.
