My thanks to Bill (Parametrol) for buddying up and obtaining this lovely catalytic stove. Long story made short, this was the item featured in one of the post where the Royal Mail sent it back to Bill. Perseverance paid off and finally arrived this side of the pond. I was surprised and somehow found it odd that the surface where the stove pot sits had a glass on it. I finally realized it may be a quartz glass otherwise, the heat would have broken an ordinary glass. It also has a piezo electric start and uses a CV270 Camping Gaz canister. The instruction manual and labels on the stove are in Japanese (maybe Chinese) characters. Despite not being able to read the instructions it was obvious that this was a fairly easy stove to light. I quickly got my CV270 canister from the garage storage and hooked up the stove. The connector is exactly the same as my Camping Gaz TriStar. It may have been test fired for a second or two as the black area on the ceramic was only on the outer half as the middle to center was still white. Firing it up for the first time, it smelled like something was burning as the smell was a bit like burning plastic. I looked and touched the the plastic parts of the stove and it was not hot and pressumed it was the ceramic grill that was smelling. After a few minutes, the smell went away and using my usual 2 cup aluminum pan with 16oz. of tap water at medium-low setting I began to time it getting a full rolling boil in under 9 minutes. Again this was at M-L setting. It would have been faster perhaps at full throttle but was hesitant on the first try. Perhaps in my next tea test, I may have faster boil times. Looking also at the way the stove has a flat surface, it may be possible to use the JetBoil pot for faster boil times. The pictures show it all and as of this writing am uploading a 2 minute YouTube video of the first test fire. Thanks BILL Ron

Yep, one here too, IIRC they were being knocked out on eBay for about £6.99 about three years ago same seller had a load of Camping Gaz gear at the time including a stove with a really big burner and windshield, I'll try and find them for the details.

Motoshi, Thank you for the translation. So is the ceramic replacement still sold in Japan? Might need to ask you to get a spare for me just in case it cracks. Would you think that it is because of the sudden exposure to cold temperatures just after it has been lighted that the ceramic cracks? Your input would be appreciated. Ron
Hello Ron. At that time, this stove sold the short span of time also in Japan. It doesn't sell it now. Perhaps, I think that there were a lot of complaints to which the ceramic cracks. Motoshi

Wow, very cool stove! I had no idea that CG produced a catalytic type stove. Some time you should run tests between your Tristar and your Trek 270 just to see which can heat more efficiently (as measured by fuel consumption and time required). Good stuff! I recently purchased a Gerry infrared stove which is an even earlier example of a non-flame stove. I bought a fuel adapter from Henrik which arrived promptly, but the hose still hasn't arrived from China, so I haven't been able to try it out yet. HJ
HJ, we did a shoot out and the Trek lost to the MSR Reactor obviously but still is a collectors stove since the design is unique just like the military stove that you have that has not gone into production. It will just be displayed on the shelf as the Tri Star will definitely outdo the Trek. Its more of a simmering stove IMHO. Ron
