Cheers everyone from a "Yank" across the "Pond" LOL !

I have a rather extensive stove collection that seems to be growing on a daily basis, I was mainly a lantern & lamp collector but over the years I could not resist the temptation of buying these wonderful little stoves (some not so little), my newest acquisition is a Tilley CS56 that was purchased for the princely sum of $15 US.
It was in pretty sad shape when I picked it up, the brass fount was severely corroded, the upper burner was plugged with gunk & goo and the vaporizer was plugged with carbon.
After about twenty hours of labor I managed to get her looking good and running pretty decently, here are a few pics of her in action.

I contacted Base Camp to see if they could supply me with a new vaporizer, I understand that these vaporizers are shorter in length than a Tilley X246 Storm Lantern and the gas tip is much larger, so we will see if they can come up with one for me.

    Hi, Colemanguy,

Welcome to CCS, and congrats on a successful fettle, Sir!! Well done, and nice photos, too! Not something you see here in the States, very often, so it's nice to see one in action. Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, it's much appreciated, the date code reads 5570 so I am going to assume May 5th, 1970 ?, or is it like a Petromax, 5th week, 5th day ?

    I will posting my stove collection as soon as the batteries in my digicam charge, some of the stoves I own include ;

    Svea #154 alcohol range
    Coleman 500, 520, 530, NOS425,413G,413C,9G,413D Canadain Peak 1, Model #2 (1924 with folding oven),Model M1950,Sears two burner suitcase.
Coleman Kitchen Range (the size of a modern kitchen/oven), Solus
    A.G.M KampKook
    Prentiss Wabers Mountain stove
    Roger's M1950
    Akron M1950
    AGM Vehicular stove
    Optimus 22B

That's off the top of my head, will have to go out and make a real list.

Hi Colemanguy, the last 0 is dropped as part of tilleys own code so gives a date of May 1957 so slightly older. ;)
These stove were only sold for a short time from 1956 to the early 60's.

Thanks David, the information is much appreciated.
I have heard in the past that Tilley vaporizers are difficult or cannot be cleaned when plugged up with carbon, is this true ?
This vaporizer would pass nothing when I first tried it, I ended up cleaning it for almost two hours in my ultra-sonic cleaner, a lot of gunk came out, it's still not 100% but pretty darn close.

They were always meant to be replacement items i.e. not serviceable. However, given their rarity, I don't blame you for giving it a try!

They do come up on eBay UK from time-to-time and generally sell for around £20 or so. Having said that, I can't remember the last time one was listed... :(

Official word has always been to bin it, but if you can get it to work all the good to you. :D/ :D/
