I was experiencing fuel leakage into the pump tube on my new Hiker+

    I removed the nrv....

...and was a liitle puzzled about the slot at the top

Now I wonder; should I a) install a new nrv? or b) just swap the plastic washer with a lead one?

The slot is so you can remove the nrv with a screwdriver

    option a.

I just don't like the look of the nrv with the slot, it already looks like it is distorted.

The distortion is due to the wrench being used to torque it in/out.

Try it with a lead washer, bet that's all it needs, IMO.

Hi SU, I reckon lead washers are original and best.

    Hi SU,

Just out of curiosity, how new is it? Is it a brand new model with one of the brass fuel tanks?

    Thanks,

    Al

    Thanks for your answers.
I think the distortion is as Murph says due to the wrench/torque. I had to use some muscle to loosen it.
It has a brass fuel tank, so I guess its a newer model.
I think I´ll go for option a, a new nrv and a lead washer

These NRVS with the slot seem very flimsy. I recently braised a new head onto one on these for another stovie here. It had distorted on first use.

I would not put that back in, in that shape as you may not get it out next time.

    Very poor design.

    Hi Dan!
I totally agree with you. As brass is rather soft I dont think its very wise to make a slot.
The decision is made; I`ll give my new stove a lead washer an old type nrv with no slot.

Hi Stove user, the old one should be easy to fix, if you want to.

Force it back into shape, then place a flat bit of brass in the slot. Braise or solder the brass in. Re drill the hole from the inside of the nrv head. A few swipes with a file and it should be better than new.

Braising is easier than soldering on a repair like this as you don't need to tin the brass and you can get it really hot without risking melting other parts. It is quite a bit harder to drill through the braise, that is why drilling from the inside is easier. It is self centering that way.

I suspect in Norway you can get spares a lot cheaper than we can here in NZ so it may not be worth repair. Down here in the cheap seats we don't hiff anything out.

It is a great looking stove!

    Hi Dan.
To "improve" the original nrv would be in the spirit of CCS. But, Jr got hold of some nrvs and he only payd 25 Norwegian Kroner a piece so I think I`ll just put in a new one for now.
Appreciate your advice though, it might come in handy some day.

    Best regards
