Hello guys. Finally got some sparetime too play with my growing collection of stoves, and take out two Optimus 111T to day to fire them up. They are civilian version of the 111 stove, and the condition are ok. Both fire up without any problem, but the left one hiss a little louder and the tank get much more hotter than the stove too the right. I do not now if this can cause any trouble, but are thankful for suggestion to fettle the problem away. Best regards Arvid
Nice to have two of these. The heat shield on the left hand one looks closer to the tank. Perhaps that is why it got hotter. As for hissing, is the fuel the same in both and are the tanks clean inside and the filter clear?
Hi Reginol, Are you sure the one on the left is not for/from military use? I have two 111T's with the square hole in the SRV of the fuel cap: Robertson screwdriver fits it, and these were described to me as being used in the military. All my other 111 T's have the pentagon-shaped (5-sided) hole in the fuel cap for their SRV (civilian-style?). Also, both military models I have had the same type of spindle (like yours), and both with original blue paint (not military green/olive). I'm no expert on the Optimus 111 line of stoves, so hopefully someone with more experience can chime in. My other T's (3) either have the thick spindle/NRV removal tool combo with the black handle or the red-thin bakelight handle. Everything else being equal with your stoves (both running same fuel, both with good fuel cap gaskets, working NRV/SRV, etc) it sounds like the one on the left is underburning. Check the inner cap for pitting or damage and clean the jet or swap it out. Try replacing both the inner and outer cap of the 'good' stove with the one giving you trouble and see if that solves it. Pressure is the same for both stoves, there's no problem with pumping either tanks and no leaks: gaskets good, SRV/NRV working properly, etc?
Greetings, I agree with SMolson. Sounds like you might have an underburning problem with the louder/hotter stove. His advice is right on, so please give it heed and check out your stove carefully. By the way, you are fortunate to have two of those stoves! Though yours are the earlier version of the 111T, they are wonderful stoves, and I dearly love them! Take care, have fun, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Yes, you are very fortunate to have two of these. They seem to becoming a rare find these days. I'm very lucky that I found one years ago for a decent price..and it's one of my most used stoves to this day. I do wish Optimus started production on this stove again...I'd snap up a couple right away.
Thanks a lot for nice comments and good fettle tips guys. I will try some of the tips later, and come back with a rapport too you. Best regards Arvid
Hi! The first owner told me he bought this in a sporting goods store and then I presumed it was a civilian stove. Maybe he replaced the original tank lid with a military one at some point? Best regards Arvid
Hi None of my military 111 Hikers have square hole in SRV. I have this kind of tanklid in some Optimus repair kits. brgds Bjørn
Thanks for the info Bjørn. My latest 111 T, according to her previous owner, came from Army Surplus (US), and it had the square hole. Full stove: I'll post this one shortly in a new thread and review the Optimus 111 Hiker's already in the reference gallery for more info on these models/their history.
Good evening guys! Just changed the inner cap on the left stove, and I also give it a new jet, and now it works very well. Thanks a lot for good fettle tips. Best regards Reginol
