Hi, I have a 1957 Primus Catalogue which is in Swedish. My friend Christer has just provided this translation to the relevant section:

Here is my Primus No.1682 Heat-Shield. I have also shown it mounted on my Primus No.10 stove:

In this last image, from Primus publicity material, you can see a heat-shield in use in a kitchen.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

    Hello,
Nice phots with the research as a follow up. Although you would think of all these stoves used for camping and outdoors they where used as a primary source of cooking at one time.

So who has the skills and facilities to make these?
I imagine lots of us would like some.

The 1682 came with the chain - the 1688 didn't. The 1684 was flat & bigger for use with the No:2 & 6 stoves. Also came with chain.

Items like the cast-iron range & the iron heater had an attachment point for the chain.

    This is another 1682

I use these a lot when using a stove under a skillet ir in the wind shelter. Mick Emm knocked a couple of 'users' up for me out of some galvanised sheet I had, using an outline I traced from an original.

I can confirm that, Chuck. 65+ years ago my grandmother used a 2 pint silent burner Primus stove during the summer months in her wild, remote farmhouse when the solid fuel range was cold and dead. No mains services of any kind and no telephone; water was daily pumped up to a storage tank via a manual pump sited over the well. Life was no bed of roses for remote hill farmers in UK but she enjoyed a long, productive life nonetheless.
