I just recently obtained my grandparents' old Preway P4522 and I'm unable to find any info. Here are some pics, I KNOW how you guys like pix! Ha! . I'm curious about its age and if I can get leathers for it? I haven't tried to fire it up (does it use white gas or what?).

    Hello to all
I am new here and read this thread on the Preway Stove.
This thread caught my eye because i recently aquired a
Prentiss Waber [ Preway] stove myself. Mine is Model P4522-A .
Panwasher, the stove you have looks just like the one i have. Like
you i would love to have a little more information about it.

    Hello,
Believe it or not I actually have the original instructions for the P4522-A and the
P4523-A. The P4523-A is a three burner stove. I picked up the two burner on e-bay for the grand bid of $1.00 plus $17.00 to ship.

My scanner is long gone but, I will take it into work and scan it . I can then send it to everyone who is interested.

    instructions now on site

    Chuck,
You actually have this stove and the original operating instructions? And you only paid $1.00 for it? Does your stove work? Have you restored it? I don't think there is a whole lot of this model floating around. No one seems to know much about them. Like about how old this model might be? Does the original operating instructions have a year in it? And yes i would love to have a copy of the original operating instructions if it is not a problem. Although i am a far cry from an expert on stoves, it does seem like a fairly well made stove in my opinion. The one i have was in pretty sad shape with some issues. However , i am in the process or restoring it, so it is in many pieces at the moment. Unfortunatly it will not be the green color it should be because i could not find 1200 degree paint in that color. I would love to find some 1200 degree clear coat for the gloss effect since 1200 degree paint does not have much shine to it. Mabe the 1200 degree paint was not necessary or mabe it should have been a higher temp? Not real sure since i am new at this. Would love to see some photos of the stove you have.

It wasn't - I think you'll find ordinary car spray paint in a rattle-can will be easily able to cope with the temperatures Involved.

Don't know how it works in the US, but in the UK we have racks of these cans on display in car service parts dealers. I just take part of the stove, lantern or whatever and match it by eye. If you're really choosy and can't find exactly the colour you want, I'm sure that, like us, you can find dealers who'll match and mix up a small amount of the paint and put it in a spray can for you. Hope that helps...

    Hello,
I agree with David. As long as the paint is not going to come in direct contact with the flame it should handle the heat. Give it a go, what is the worse that will happen??

    Hello,
But i have already painted the stove, Grrrrrrrrr. So i should be able to clear coat what i have painted with no bad effects then? Ok, well that is a good thing to know. Thanks for the owners manual Chuck.

I have found that John Deere Green is about as close a match to any of the green paints used on stoves here in the US, That or Krylon Hunter Green will do nicely.

I just picked up prentiss preway on ebay. The person I bought it from got it at a tag sale from a 90 year old man who was a guide in Minnesota and Canada. I'm guessing it is about 70 years old

Could someone point me int he direction of the instructions for this stove? I just joined the site and have not learned the lay of the land yet! I picked up this model today at an estate sale for $12 and partial instructions were inside the stove. I say partial because the paper is old and crumbly and the bottom portion is missing. :-/

    Thanks!

I see the instructions for the P4822, but not the P4522. It says they're onsite, but I can't find them. Do you still have them available?

Thank you so very much. Just learning my way around website but was anxious to fire my new stove up. Instructions told me what I was doing wrong, fires up different than a Coleman. When all else fails, read the directions! Thank you again. This is a marvelous site!
