They call it Ciber Punk, steam powered machines!

    1800+! Nice "époque"!

Well, as it is fall here (near winter), I'll go on with my Rhum!

You’re describing Lancashire, bar the flag and my being president.

I’ll confess my weekend has started with paraffin hands, tinkering with a Heinz Geniol military stove - soon to appear in the Stove Ref Gallery - but tomorrow there’ll be a Biolite grill session for four (well, two Biolites and two grills to be precise).

    Off to Stafford.

    @salan3

My father was a lecturer at the college there and they lived in Letchworth for a while.

I have an old school friend who we still visit occasionally there as well.

Enjoy your tour, the weather is looking good for you.

    Hi John, @presscall

What do you think of Vesta(s)land?, one, Vesta Roman goddess associated with fire, and for @shagratork who only carries matches.

I've knocked up a flag which I'll post a bit later so don't worry about that bit Mr President. :)

Vestaland. National dress a string vest (and pants). Like it. Stylish.

    Impressive @kev_c

You'll be issued with your Vestaland passport when you present your Biolite at passport control. 8]

The Festival of Vestalia runs from 7 - 15th June, something to celebrate slightly earlier at Newark.

Based on TLUD functionality, Green for the fuel, black for the char and yellow for the flame.

The string vest has been ordered, a cheap one not a Brynje, which will probably go on my list for Santa.

To all at CCS and CPL

I would just like to say a belated but heartfelt thank you to everyone (far too many names to mention) at Newark this year for making a first time visitor feel so welcome and included.

I had a wonderful time putting faces to names, chatting, chilling and making/eating pizza and just generally enjoying looking at others lamps and stoves.

An especially big thank you to Ross and all involved for organizing the annual event, I only wish I had not been so needlessly shy and attended years ago!

I look forward to attending next year and will definitely book the time off work as soon as a date is confirmed, and look forward to seeing you all again soon.

    Regards Jeremy

    Hi all,

Firstly thank you for those that attended the Newark meet and realising that they had, along with other nationalities, an ex-Brit-currently-Kiwi in their midst still made me feel very welcome, even if I talk slightly funny (none of you can brag about being able to be understood BTW).

Special thanks to Ross @Spiritburner who picked me up from somewhere around Newcastle and brought me down to the site and especially Terry @Trojandog who stepped up to the plate at short notice and went the long way home to see me safely at my next port of call in Sholden.

I have been asked what were the highlights of my trip many times since being back and it's hard to put one above another when there's family and decades long friends involved but I have to say that the calibre of people encountered at Newark means that you lot are within the first hand of the 'great to have been there, great to have seen, a pleasure to have met' answers. I would be more than happy returning, although my next two years of leave are already accounted for.

I have distilled out some of the photos taken and hopefully they do most of you justice, although some of the morning after the night before photos took some make-up to make them respectable.

Apologies for the length of time to back-load the images but I had a few to deal with and apparently, work takes precedence. Who knew.

    Best,

    Rob

ps. I'll leave it to the brave to add captions. I have many but despite the temptation, have resisted.

And then, there was an in the field kettle repair by John @presscall and I'd say the owner, Simon @Simes, was well pleased.

I note from the date / time stamp on the images that this took 20 minutes flat from work starting to proving a tight joint and only another two until it was on the burner for a tea test!

Finally, the dogs. Many took the trouble to bring their owners to the dog-and-owner show at Newark, and some of the owners are featured above. Now it's their turn.
