The Svea 123R is about the same height as my double-wall Snowpeak 600 mug: It fits in it, too: There's a small gap, where the "pips" for the brass upper section are: I was worried it might get stuck if I had it in the backpack and squashed it, so I tried leaning on it quite hard. It went down a bit, but wasn't too stuck, just worked it back with both thumbs. So "tight" not "stuck": This did leave some marks in the mug: Overall, I'm very happy with this as a way of protecting the Svea for transport, and using the space in the mug. I can also fit the tiny pump and a lighter in there. So what to use for a pot stand and windshield? Well, the Svea is just about the same height as a Honey Stove: This is the old, pre-2012 model that has a full hexagon for the trangia burner support layer. Dunno if the current model will keep shape with only the new-style trangia support. But this one, in the middle slot is just fine for the Svea: Reckon the top might be 5mm lower than the original pot support. But there's still quite a bit of clearance. Here's another layer placed on top for something small, like a coffee pot: As it is, the trangia support layer just clears the control knob without the key, but touches the key. Could move the layer up a slot, but it just seems to help stop the key falling off, so that's all to the good, too. And an action shot, with a Tatonka kettle. Worked fine, overall a setup I'm very happy with. Will need to take it out for the next bike trip.
@Rufty Nice setup. Have you tried it on a longer run than just boiling water? Does it provide enough shielding between the burner flame and the tank to prevent excessive heat transfer to the tank?
I gave the setup a bit of a test. Nearly full tank (I'd done a brew and a fry up since full) Put a very big, 10" pot on it and a temperature probe under it: Initial temperature: 24degC, after 15minutes 46degC After about half an hour (the timer app on my phone ... crashed my phone) when the stove sounded like it was running low 54degC Sounded OK, no excessive roaring.
Keep a careful eye on that setup with the Honey stove. I see it's got lots of ventilation holes, but I'd be worried about overheating the Svea. Edit: Looks like you tested for that, so shut my mouth! ....Arch
I thought the accepted wisdom was to *NOT* leave the key on when running stove due to risk of branded thumb from hot key.
Snow Peak 600 single wall cup seems to have about the same fit (a bit too tight) onto 123 than insulated cup. Evernew's 400FD Ti Solo Cup fits over 123 windshield and is a good substitute for 123's original aluminum cup. It also has a bit bigger volume/capacity: http://evernew-global.com/products/ulseries/eby265r.html
