Purchased this awhile back to add to collection. Tried it the other day on a 3 day camp trip and it really works quite well. Looks kind of like the Meta 50 only smaller and solid fuel. . This worked great - 1 Esbit brand tab was enough to heat to boiling app 2 cups of water, with some fuel left over. Looking for another now for a friend
No idea when it was made. Having a hard time finding any reference to this type. I added the strap and the pot gripper to the set. I'll keep looking
Hi all, I have one similar but not esbit and runs on meths (little bit like a trangia but its was made before trangias were even around! archie aged 9
Lovely stove set. Esbit has a current product than pairs their solid fuel with a heat exchanger cook pot and a stove stand. Not nearly as handsome as your set.
I agree. This is a nice set. I like the design of your set better than the current set. It would be interesting to see the results of a boil off contest between this set and the current model! The meta 50 was indeed intended to run solid fuel. That little trap door on the side is specifically to allow adding of additional tablets while running.
Also... The ledmark alcohol cookset is a similar design, but based on an alcohol burner. It would be easy to retrofit it to a fuel tablet with a piece of construction cloth, or even a tin can lid. ledmark set at campmor If anyone buys the ledmark kit... I recommend buying a set of Arno straps while you're there... Much better than the pleather one that comes with the kit. The 24" ones are long enough FYI.
Have thought about the Ledmark. Is it about the same size as the Meta 50 ? This Esbit kit is fairly small compared to the Meta. I do have a couple of Meta 50's, when time allows will try one with the solid fuel. I have a photo somewhere of using the pot grabber upside down as kind of a chute for the solid fuel thru the side door on the Meta
The pot lifter is intended to double as a tablet 'slide' to allow you to refuel with the whole two pot arrangement in place. I have a video up on YouTube where I do a side by side comparison... Let me try to find it... comparison video The ledmark is slightly smaller. Also here is a demo of the meta slide: metaslide!
"hier trocken-brennstoff auflegen" Finally got around to looking this up for translation. Basically means "Put dry fuel here". Still I cannot find another or any information on this
This may be a Model 27 Kocher or Kochen as referenced on the Esbit website from the 50's to 60's era.
It is Esbit 27 and was still made in early 70's - very competent for its size and weight - just had to buy when I found one.
