    Ok.
My point is to indicate the thread.

    Apologies Ken.

Trying to find the common denominator seems to be eluding us. With it seemingly being almost random isn't helping pin it down.

Not occured for me for a couple of days, but I have been catching up on more recent postings.

Redspeedster's recent thread about a radius stove
"Went Christmas tree shopping, bought myself a present"
has gone to post number 9 or 10 the last couple of times I've clicked on the link in my unread posts list (it's currently at post 14). I'm deliberately not making the link from this post so that anyone that wants to check it should use their unread posts lists (assuming that they have looked at the thread previously).
That's clearly not a CCS v3 posting so this one is outside my usual experience.
    Regards
    John

    @Simes No apology needed.

    No apparent logic, yet.

I happens to me fairly often. Now that I've begun looking out for the "New" tag, it's not a big deal.

I'm unsure if it's connected, but I had a single unread post I had deliberately left as a reminder. This dropped off the list around the same time.

It remains highlighted as unread in the forum but doesn't get listed. Last post there was Dec 27.

It's also ok to be just wee bit annoyed while we're still around to be so.

I still think it's something to do with the age of the thread and albeit pops up in unread the software assumes you've never read any posts.

Last read of the thread was a bit over a month ago. Not an old thread.

    Ah, but define age?
The moving finger writes, and having writ, moves on. Nor all thy piety nor wit, shall lure it back to cancel half a line. Except maybe within the 30 minute rule.

I know I am being somewhat silly, but if fold threads still have relevance, they defy age.

    Alec.

I would think "OLD" in the sense of "Unread" would not be defined by a thread a month and a half old. Why would it then revert to showing the 1st post in the thread?

That was why I was thinking of a counter on your profile in the software. There may be a limit on what your profile says you have been doing.

Say, for argument, your profile only recognises your last 100 visits and will land you on 'last post' of those visits, then everything else will send you to first post.

Definately a question for the developers.

As in 'Old' then if you hadn't visited that particular thread for a while it would have dropped off your limit for 'go to first unread'.

    Pure speculation of course.

It's a tough one for me to get my head around but I from what I barely understand the database load of remembering what every visitor has & hasn't read is huge & the cache is cleared out regularly. I'm sure that raises as many queries as it possibly answers but best I can do at the moment.

    That'll do Ross.

Cache clear in the database answers the question I think. Whether it's counter or time based isn't a problem but I'm happy.

I'll try not to discuss the issue at 2am in a few weeks. :D

Now it makes sense. A database cache. There does seem to be a time limit for my 'unread' posts record.
    Thanks,
    Ken

    It happens often.
Just happened again. Last post was July this year, so 2 months.

If I use the list of notifications thae particular notification will take me to the new post.

Is there a "Jump to New" option?

I am now seeing this more often.
In my list of Unread Posts... I click on the Thread Link.. It goes to Page 1, not the newer post.
This allows me to go to the 1st unread post. it looks like this will solve the issue.
