My apologies Trevor, for biting your head off when you were making an attempt at humor. I am seeing bad intent where none exists, and this is problematic. I attribute this to exposure to, and concern about the state of things here in America, and elsewhere in the world. Even so, I should be more careful.
I use the glass eye dropper bottles available on E bay. Also have 2 large industrial bottles with the plastic spout.
Went with the Trangia fuel bottle as suggested by many folks in many threads. Only a few uses and one away mission with it and I'm hooked. I like it quite a lot. The pour spout is fantastic, quite an upgrade from a plain bottle as I had been using. I bought the 0.3l and for my limited use I expect that's all I'll need. Thank you all.
Glad to see this thread again. I've been thinking of a way to fill lighters with CF with out a mess. Zippo fuel is costly, but the dispenser is good. Fuel-Tite might be a good option.
Speaking of such-what is everyone using to fill up your Optimus stoves? I use an Enders funnel but still make a mess.
The Trangia bottle (especially the spout) is tempting, but I'm OK with my black plastic pint flask. (seen on right in back, there). It might be Nalgene. I got it at an outfitter in Flagstaff. Flip top lid, applies a small stream directly to priming moat on a Svea 123, or into mouth of Trangia burner. Also I scored a couple of hardly-used vintage aluminum Sigg bottles at a thrift shop for a dollar each. One pint, and a 750cc (not shown). Usually I use those for CF, but a strip of tape tells me it has alcohol inside.
@8R Pete So Pete, see the Sigg bottle in the background of the above post? There's a red plastic ring hanging from its neck. You pull the cap off the bottle and thread the red ring onto the threads of the cap -- taking care to line up the 2 air holes on the ring with the vent holes on the stopper. Then screw the stopper and ring back on the Sigg bottle. With your index finger on the back hole, line the nozzle over the open filler hole of the stove. Lift your finger and a small stream of fuel pours into the stove. You can see it as it pours, no funnel in the way. Stop the flow with your finger back on the airhole. Twist the stopper off slightly, turn the red ring 90* and it won't spill. OK in Camp. but remove red ring completely for travel. I don't remember who makes them, or what it's called, but you used to see them in every mountain store, usually in a fishbowl, like hard candies, and selling for a dollar. That was a few years ago, though.
My Nalgene fuel bottle has a spout which has the hole I guess you put your finger over to stop the flow of fuel. I will look next time I go to an outdoor store.
I don't know what everbody use. But I use Trangia saftey valve, either on a Trangia, Sigg or MSR bottle.
Wound up getting the 1L bottle as well. Have a trip coming up and only wanted to carry the one fuel bottle. That'll brew a lot of tea.
I prefer to re-use Ronsonol fuel bottles. They are often free from people, designed to hold fuel, come in various sizes, fit nicely in the front pocket or back pocket of my cover-all's, and have a nice tip.
@IvanN Your welcome. I have also used small mouthwash bottles (pre-heating fuel) for cooking oil and/or fuel. I have tried 8oz and larger soda bottles but I really make sure that they are easily discernible and never ever have them around children. The 12oz Ronsonol bottle is great for the trangia stove. You get about four refills without worrying about spillage. @Marc Remember the golden rule: Never pour fuel into a hot stove. You can't see those flames and a "whoosh" isn't so good lol Additional items Zippo 4oz can with Ronsonol top for those who like cans Fuel Friend Big 2.0lt
