And here are the photos of the Monitor. I had never heard of Monitor before - but I see we have a section here on them, so they must have had a reasonable distribution. Once again - untouched since purchase - and the markings are quite obscured, but when cleaned up I will post more piccies. Only part I can see missing is the Flame Spreader - (I am starting to detect a pattern.....) Once again - any comments about this stove will be received with interest. After having searched through the Stove Gallery, I'm wondering whether its a Model 15. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
That one would also need some cleaning... Flame spreader is on burner, but missing thing around flame spreader would a 'flame ring'.
Ooooops - Who's a ChuckleHead then??? I seem to be having a hard time using the term "Flame Spreader" correctly!!! But lesson learned - I hope And to me - that's what this site is all about - learning. Thanks Afterburner.
No worries! This stove has 'a detachable flame spreader' on burner (lower part of that type burner is often called 'burner bell'): Lamb petrol stove and overnight cook kit
Monitor 11 - roarer burner. Monitor 15 - silent burner. C11 / C15 are collapsible versions with centre plug (for plugging the hole when the burner is removed) and removable pot stands. I consider them to be reliable stoves - I carry "Trusty" (Monitor 15 silent burner with a spare roarer burner) in my campervan most of the time. Baz
They do not have any manufacturers date stamps. I would guess somewhere around 1950 / 1960 although that is a complete guess. Yours looks all original and is a Monitor 11. Baz
Thanks for the link - did you make those boxes?? They are sweet - I love the internal documentation - I might have to have a go at something like those - I really like them - and great to protect all our hard work - sorry - "fettling"
I did indeed! Something to do whilst waiting for the next stove to come my way. The original aim was to have a box that had everything in ready to go on an adventure, except fuel. After many seepages, I carry fuel separately in proper fuel containers. People always seem intrigued when you're out and about using these stoves, so I included the documents for people to read. Nowadays, the boxes I make are more for storage as 'cubes' are easier to stack than bare stoves with loose components. Baz
@Polybus,a few years back there were a ton of the C11 stoves to be had, NIB, with MoD markings, sold for what we all thought was a song! I bought one, with a heat dome and spares kit, best money I ever spent on a kero stove. Works a treat! Murph
@Polybus A good stove to start your fettling addiction on. It should clean up nicely and perform well.
