Saw this unfired 111T listed on a local Facebook sales page, and I picked it up for a little over $100. It is made for the Norwegian market, but I am not sure when it was made. It has the o-ring pump and pentagonal SRV-screw, if that's an indication of anything. I believe it's one of the later models? The white sticker on the box says "For outdoor use - only with kerosene in Norway", while the cardboard box clearly says "Triple fuel". I am not a fan of shelf queens, and I don't think I'll be able to fire it up, so I might just end up selling it. Thought I'd share it here before I did, so you could have a look. Here are some pictures:

Is that a date on the top right hand corner of the paperwork?

The might also be a date on the carton.

    Best regards

    Tony

I could not find any numbered stamps on the cardboard box. The 90-03-01 does not seem to indicate any time of production. When did Optimus stop manufacturing these, in favor of the 111C?

    @kerophile
They do seem alike. In the last thread you linked to, the only difference I can see is that my stove does not have the brass burner cap.

    Hi, @HaakonJ ,

That's a lovely 111T you've gotten, and those were sold over here in the US. A favorite of mine, to be sure, and a favorite of lots of others here at CCS, too!! Well done, and hearty congratulations!! Thanks for sharing, and God Bless!

You are probably right! In Sweden the most common way to denote date is by the ISO 8601 standard, which denotes a date like this: YYYY-MM-DD. In Norway, DD-MM-YYYY is the most common, and I just assumed this was true for Sweden as well. So, that would mean the date code for the instructions would be 1st of March, 1990.

Minty fresh. I saw 90 and thought, "that's practically new." Oh wait it's 2019, nearly 30 years old. I think that it is me that is old.

Somewhere around 1995-1996, I think. What I know is 111C had replaced it in 1997.

The sticker on the outside of the steel case is interesting. It says:
    - USE OUTDOORS -
    ONLY WITH PARAFFIN IN NORWAY
    SBI approval no. 11 006

The background is that it was prohibited in Norway to use white gasoline and petrol in outdoor stoves until sometime during the first half of the 1990's. As the 111T could use also gasoline type of fuels, this had to be pointed out. You can also see that in this version of the schematic drawing does not show the extra jets and restrictor tubes for alcohol and white gasoline.

The authority approving the stove, SBI was - if I remember correctly - "Statens Branninspektion" which in 1984 was merged with DBE, another authority. So the approval must have been issued before 1984, but it could still have been valid after SBI was merged with DBE (there has been a series of mergers and changes in the authorities since then).

My guess based on the sticker is that the stove was made before the ban on gasoline stoves was lifted. I don't remember exactly which year this was, maybe our Norwegian members can help here?

It's a really nice stove catch by the way:thumbup:

I remember in early days here at CCS reading about the ban of petrol burning outdoor stoves in Norway, which of course had been lifted some years before.

It struck me as very unusual that there had been such a ban, in such a rugged place. Particularly inasmuch as neighboring Sweden had been producing such well-known climbing and hiking petrolburners as the Svea 123, and Primus and Optimus types for a long time.

Was there some specific incident that lay behind the ban? Anybody know the history of it?

    My guess...

Often here (in Scandinavia) government organizations are filled with persons that have gotten their high school diploma and then they go to university. They graduate with good papers that BUT don't have ANY glue about real life nor practical things. During their study time they have looked too many Hollywood movies, where cars always explode even from a smallest crash. Gasoline/petrol in tank will cause that huge explosion.

When they work for government safety authority/organization they will ban everything that contains gasoline/petrol since they believe that gasoline/petrol will cause always a huge explosion.

@Afterburner, a situation that exists evrywhere. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in the UK continue to fight against poor implementation of standards and legislatiin by a culture of zero risk.

Add an idiot to gasoline and you just might get an explosion.
I see people smoking in gas stations. Clueless!!
