Greetings All, I recently acquired a SureFire No. 27. Everything's working property except the control for the auxiliary burner. It's "stuck" closed. The control simply spins freely...both directions...and does nothing. I thought that if I could get the burner cap off I might be able to access the mechanism, but no luck. I can just see some sort of mechanism about an inch to the left, but the hole in the bottom of the burner is way to small to use as an access point. I'm thinking the shutoff mechanism is in that thicker bit of the manifold tube to the left of the burner. I'm really not liking this design. It appears that all the components were crimped onto the top half of the manifold tube and then the top half was crimped onto the bottom half. I'm not seeing any way to get inside without uncrimping the whole tube. Does anyone have experience with these? Any ideas? Should I just leave it and be happy that one burner works? Thanks, Bill
Sigh. Colour me stupid. All this time I thought it was a control with a screw mechanism. I even asked another Sure Fire owner. I was fiddling with it tonight. I had the primary lit and was taking photos. I moved the auxiliary control to get it in a better position for a photo and gave it tug. Suddenly the flame on the primary dropped by half. It's just a shutter with a push/pull control rod. D'oh! I'll take some photos in when it gets dark and post them later. Bill
Here it is. I've cleaned and degreased, but left it otherwise as I acquired it. I'd love to do a full restoration and think it could be really beautiful, but it seems like something of a one-of-a-kind, so I'm going to exercise restraint for now.
Welcome Bill, Thank you for posting this. The stove and company history is quite interesting. The GB logo and same company is thriving, I've installed some of their retro hardware and was impressed. FYI another GB example posted on CCS just recently Goldberg Brothers 2
Hello fellow B.C'er. Looks exactly like my SPIRO. I think someone said mine was rebadged? Can't remember. They are a little bit different. Nice find. Alex
