Hello, today the postman came, not totally unexpected.
That is to say I bought an Optimus 155 with quite a few spare parts among that a complete spare burner.
Not yet in working order, I will have to clean and fix a little bit.
The biggest problem seems to be a leaking fuel pipe to one of the quick lighters, very near to the fuel tank , the narrow curve.

    Hi everyone,

As I mentioned the 155 stove I bought had a little leak in a pre heater pipe, that is fixed now.
After having cleaned the housing and built up burners and pre heaters I thought beginning reassemble the stove.
So far I did not touch the fuel tank that much but now when rebuilding and therefore turning the tank up side down sometimes I noticed a sound from inside.
After some movement to get the object right beneath the filling opening I can see it is a small plastic pipe, color like milk, about 1 cm thick and 6 cm long .
Question is now, has anyone seen the inside of the tank once? I suppose such a plastic pipe should not move free inside, but what could be the purpose?
Did Optimus use plastic parts anyhow, could it be a part of the history from a former owner?

    Never a dull moment, regards,

    Ton.

Hi @ton visser A later addition to your Stove/ tank I would think:

    Optimus Marine 55/155 exploded view

I have found numerous different objects in stove tanks over the years and they were invariably identified as added after purchase.
I have had success with artery forceps as a means of extraction.
Remove the item and get your stove operating so that we can see the photos!
    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

Hi @ton visser . I have an Optimus No.155 and have just remembered that some split section of silicone or flexible PVC tubing , approx. 1 cm diameter, were used on the folding pan support frame to prevent scratching of the stove body.
Perhaps some of this tubing was placed in the tank?

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

Hi, just taken some photos to illustrate the use of tubing on my Op.155 cooker:

Hi Kerophile, There ara no such plastics on the panholder on my stove att all.
And could it really have ended up in the tank after production? I mean, is there any chance Optimus used such a plastic pipe during production?
I will give it a try to get it out but that won't be easy.

I will be back later, regards,

    Ton.

    @kerophile
A fine example of a 155 there. A vitreous enamel finish no less, apparently so. Perhaps therein lies the reason for the protective tubing, to prevent chipping of the enamel by a carelessly flipped pot rest, absent on the stainless steel version, as they are absent from mine.

    @ton visser
An intruder in your tank for sure. Possibly a flexible spout from a fuel filling bottle?

Thanks John, I hope you are right.
I will give it a try to remove the object.
Your answer means it is almost impossible Optimus used plastic as a material?

    Regards,

    Ton.

Could a previous owner used the tube in place of an eye dropper to get a dollop of priming fuel from the tank, and then accidentally dropped it in? 6 cm seems a bit short for that purpose, though.

I have had contact with Conny, he is the guy to contact with fogas.se on those stoves.
His answer is that it is almost for sure a part of a filling hose Optimus used to have on those stoves.
I have never seen it on a picture and I suppose Conny does not have a picture either, he would have added in that case.
Maybe anyone here who has seen such an accessoire?
I think I will leave it where it is, hard to get it out anyhow.

    Regards,

    Ton.

Ok, after building up the stove I tried to pump some pressure, and found some small leaks.

First, the air/fuel pipe to one of the quick lighters I mentioned before, that leak seems to be fixed now. Though I have not built up the stove yet.
I will have to wait and see if there is not too much stress, tension on the pipe with everything screwed in place.

Second source of leak is the filler cap, type with pressure gauze. There is some sort of screw in the middle, anyone who knows whether the rubber is beneath that screw, holding it in place? Should I remove this screw in order to change the gasket?

The pump pipe was unscrewed from the tank very easy, no problem to remove the NRV for inspection, I did not find any signs of material to make the pump pipe air tight in the tank after removal. I think I will figure out something myself. Both end are equal by the way.

Another thing is or are the quick lighter tubes. I an pretty sure they are the same as those used on pressure lamps part number 2802.
But the one on my Optimus 1550 lamp has a much thinner wall, the two tubes I have with this stove have much thicker walls. Hope you understand what I mean with wall in this meaning.

    Regards,

    Ton.

Fuel cap with a pressure gauge I guess you mean Ton.

There’s no need to remove the screw (nut holding the cap onto the pessure gauge) to replace the cap seal.

Photos show the arrangement. The nut in the cap requires thread sealant on reassembly or pressurised air can leak past the threads.

The fuel cap ‘floats’ on the pressure gauge threaded spigot to enable orientation of the gauge ‘right way up’ for the user’s convenience when screwing down the cap.

I don’t see that the gauge of the quicklighter tube shrouds matters, relevant to whether it’s on a lantern or a stove. I’d put it down to a variation arising out of when various examples were produced. Maybe Optimus realised they could use a lighter gauge metal or a different alloy of steel?

Thank you John, that is the one.
And the one on my stove is working so I will not try to unscrew it. Just change the gasket if needed.

About the tubes, something tells me I have put a picture on the forum in the past, but I cannot find it anymore.
