I received this in the post this morning from my best mate's wife. He died last Thursday after a shortish battle with cancer. He thought he'd lost it but found it recently in a dreadful state... all the steel parts were very rusty indeed as I think it had been in its box in direct contact with water. I've cleaned it up reasonably well as you can see but the jet is blocked... hardly surprising given the state it was in. What would be the best way to free the jet? I tried a pricker but either it's the wrong size or the blockage is too firmly clogged. Has anyone managed to free theirs and if so, how? I checked the date stamp and it's T over 2 which means 1929 I think.
These don't have a jet, just a tiny hole in the tip of the lipstick(vaporizer). Try a soak in hot vinegar, light tapping. Stiff narrow brush up its .........! Duane
Don’t assume it’s immovably clogged until you’re sure you’re using the right sized pricker. The jet orifice is 0.23mm on ‘96’s so a more common 0.32mm simply won’t fit.
Ahhhh, good call. I don't have a .23 mm pricker but I have some ultra thin stainless wire I might try.
I see we have American English vs other English. It does have a jet (of course). The jet is in the lipstick vapouriser. Some people refer to a nipple (that has a “jet” (hole) drilled in it) as a jet. But back to the main game. @Colin Geer, a high E guitar string should be about 0.20mm. These make good prickers for the 0.23 jets. Cheers Tony
Yeah, in American English, 'nipple' does work, but 'jet' I would say is preferred. 'Nipple' leads the mind in non-metallic directions.
@Colin Geer I will recommend that you measure your wire first, in order not to enlarge the jet by accident. I would give it a citric bath first after having checked the mesh inside the lipstick. I have some of that High E guitarstring - be happy to send you a piece? (HV @MrAlexxx - )
Colin, I haven't tried it on a lipstick but I have cleared many severely blocked jets by heating then quenching the nipple.
I never knew if there was much difference between a jet or nipple, not having grown up here. Guess a fount is where the burner is on top of the fuel container and a tank is separated with a fuel line/pipe/tube. Duane
I have a Monitor 17B that is a lipstick type without a nipple but has a hole (jet) in the end. My vapouriser tube has no mesh at all (missing should have one) it seems to burn ok, but has some yellow tips on the flame is that a over sized jet hole or because of a missing mesh?

Well... maybe, but it's metric and it just worked! I heat quenched four times and then used the wire to free the jet and it slid in happily. Here's the money shot... And finally a cuppa in my mate Dave's honour, brewed using his stove!
