I have an "Optimus 8R" that looks very much like the other 8R stoves on the forums, but there are no S.N. or identifying numbers other than the foil sticker on the lid, see pix, which looks dated also. how do you identify if this is a legitimate 8R or maybe a Chinese/Russian clone?

Looks like the real deal to me. Optimus No.8R post 1962 and formation of PTC.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

It's a legitimate Opti 8R. It looks like mine with the only identifier being the sticker. I don't see the spindle control but it should be a multi-tool key.

Russian clones have nickel plated tanks and have gray color cases. Asian clones vary between manufacturers but Yours is the right color and I believe it's not a clone. I think the price is fair with shipping included.

As soon as the repair parts arrive I'll put some pix of it running and making some red bud tree root tea.

@rchilso make sure that you have a penta (five sided) key for when you replace the SRV seal. You'll also need some way of getting the tension right when you fit it. Too tight and it'll never do its job. Too loose and you could have a flare up.
    Regards

    Optimust.

The stove looks like real Optimus parts,
but an assembly from different models. If
it works you did not do too bad. Best to you. Optomust.

Hi Optimust. Can you expand on this comment a bit? Which parts are from other models?

    @ Ray 123.

After browsing the Stove reference gallery
I think it more likely the stove is a Primus 8r, but labeled as an Optimus when they took over the Primus liquid fueled stoves & the primus stockpile of parts. I could not discern a tool clip in the lid of the stove in post, & in error drew the wrong conclusion. Thanks for the heads up.
My best to you. Optimust.

As real as it gets, a great little stove that runs forever. Enjoy it.

it has a weak output so I took the wick out and it was a little burned and the fuel cap leaks when I did the dunk test so I've ordered a repair kit with new seals and I found an SRV tool on amazon for a svea 123. I hope it fits it. the description on the tool said it was 5 pointed so we will see. the parts are coming from Ukraine and the tracking said this week. (fingers crossed)

There is one that has rounded edges. Quietstove sells it. Not recommended. Beware, that one can damage the part in the cap.

Best parts come from The Fettlebox.

Thank for the heads up. I looked on the fettlebox site and there wasn't any penta tools avail. the only one i saw were the square tools. I'm going to have to make one for my self I guess.

    Looks good!

You might want to let that SRV soak in a 50/50 micture of Acetone and transmission fluid. It sounds weird, but it works wonders. Looking forward to a fresh flameshot.
