As lockdown eases in the UK one of the consequences is that Bisley has reopened for shooting and a group of seven of us met up yesterday for a practise shoot. We have all kept in touch by email telling each other what we have been up to; in my case fettling some stoves which I'm embarrassed to say have been on the back burner for a couple of years. Imagine my delight when being handed this gift from a close friend who told me his Mother in Law had found it in the shed and wanted rid of it' she's in her eighties now and doesn't think she will ever use it again! More pictures when she's completely fettled!
Hi Mick @Strangely Brown , your friend's mother in law may have bought this brand new! Sure handy to make a brew when shooting at Bisley! I have very good memories re Bisley, went for the annual Pistol Anno Domini event till 1997 when most pistol shooting was forbidden in the UK (only handguns up to 1918 are still allowed). That last year we also attended the "FOX 1500" Police Pistol shoot (1500 being the max possible score). So sad all this came to an end.
Very nice gift, looking forward to seeing it after you fettle it! On a side note I need to get better friends.
Hi Mick, my first year at Bisley was 1988. I missed 1992, as my youngest son was just born end of april, and my father passed away mid may that year. I had the impression over the years not many Belgians took part and our own group of something like a dozen people in 1988 dwindled down to just 2. So, if you remember seeing a handsome 40 years old foreigner that must have been me!
I have a couple of Thermidors pretty much exactly like that. Been thinking about putting some elbow grease to them. What do you shoot, Mick? The local outdoor range I belong to opened about 6 weeks ago with several restrictions still in place, the most inconvenient being no guests. I've been out several times since. That range has a separate pistol range, a main range for rifle (and pistol if desired), and a separate rimfire range. I shoot mainly revolvers and a miscellany of rifles. How available are ranges in the UK apart from the storied Bisley?
Mainly Lee Enfield's Ed, as your aware the government took my S&W 686 from me in the last round of making the country "safer". My main interest is the target variations of Enfield's and the very unusual ones like the Whitaker Special (I have two of them). There are other ranges but not out to 1200 yards like Bisley although Scotland does have a couple of longer ranges.
