Picked up my first camping stove, a Coleman 426B - for very little money. Unfortunately the pump does not seem to work. Also found some loose bits in the tank. From my short reading, these seem to have been made in the 50's. The plunger cup seems newer being plastic. Is there a part missing here?
That looks like a newer style that maybe was pulled from a lantern or other stove. Maybe the original cup wasn't working and a PO swapped out parts. Wonder if the clip kept coming off this one and some goop was applied in a failure? Mine has threads on the shaft end with a square nut screwed on the retain the cup assbl. Duane
I have replaced the plastic bucket with a leather one. If you carefully remove the retaining clip it can be put back.
So while waiting for the leather pump cup to arrive, I decided to start messing with the tank, rinsed a bit of rust out, tested the check valve by blowing in the pump cylinder... You guys are going to laugh really hard: It dawned on me (finally) that the little orifice in the plunger has to be covered with let's say ... a thumb ) A photo is worth a thousand words...
The 426 is a beast. I keep a 200a lantern, a steel stove stand and a custom set of chef trays in mine. Weighs a ton. My favorite suit case stove. With the bronze tank yours was made 1954-57 if the tank was red it would be 58-61
I’m sure it’s a heavyweight but there is only one suitcase stove that really interests me right now. Just have to find a way to talk Doc Mark into selling it to me.
