This stove was made in Brisbane, Australia. Regulated, silent and noisy burners were all available. The earliest models came with a case. This one is later and came bolted to a large 'spill' tray with a slightly raised back which may well have been a later option. The stove has copper founts. Originally the frame, splash plates and the joining frame were zinc coated. In restoring it I elected, for price reasons, to paint the frame in silver and a few parts I have done in black, because I think it looks better with some contrast. The stove joiner can be undone by two wing nuts and then the two stoves can be used individually. The stove as can be seen from the badge operates on household kerosine. Iain
Beautiful stove nicely restored. This is the first two burner Handi I've seen. Interesting how Kerosine is spelled and I love the copper fuel tanks. Very, very nice indeed. Ben
@z1ulike @Paul Aslanides Thanks for the comments. Ben, it is interesting how kerosene is spelt. Not sure if it was a Queensland thing or not. There are some occasional differences in spelling and names of things across the country and I guess the same in the USA. PS This is how the stove came and I initially thought it was a Companion stove, at first glance, until I spotted the badge and then I couldn't get it out of the secondhand shop fast enough.
Nicely restored Handi, Iain. “Kerosine” and “Kerosene” were both used in Australia, but kerosene is now dominant as the spelling. I have a untested assumption that the “ine” spelling may have been the most used spelling in the early to mid-20th century. Iain, it has cleaned up nicely and the silver'n'black looks good. Kerosine wasn't restricted to Queensland, I saw it quite often in NSW growing up.
A quick look through my photos of fuel drums shows the following. “Kerosine” was used by: Shell (Pennant); BP; AMPOL; Caltex; and Neptune. “Kerosene” was used by: Mobil (Laurel); Golden Fleece; Esso; Texaco; and Shell (both spellings). Tony
Howdy, @Sedgman , What a wonderful Handi Stovette! Those are great stoves, and very well put together.
