@The Warrior , I have the perfect solution to dealing with those pesky Chiggers. Use Permethrin spray on your clothing! This stuff actually works, and if you apply it correctly, it is NOT dangerous to you, your wife, or your pets. It was originally developed for the US Army, and we buy ours from REI. You can also get it here, and other places: Permethrin Insect Repellent for Clothing Gear and Tents - Sawyer Products | Sawyer Products You simply spray it on whatever clothing, including socks, and the shoes/boots you will be wearing when you go into Chigger Territory, and let it try before wearing those clothes. Once it's dry, you can actually wash it, 6-7 times before having to treat those clothes again! It kills Chigger, dead!! We used to get eaten up when we would visit the graves of our family, in Texas, UNTIL we discovered Permethrin spray! Now, not a single bite!! So, there you go, my friend!! Spray, and play, safe in the knowledge that you'll be bite-free, from those nasty little Chiggers, as long as you use this product! @Harder D. Soerensen , Thank you, my friend, for your very kind words! Much appreciated! I feel, as you do, that CCS is a very helpful, and wonderful place to call home!! It's been said, and I firmly believe, that "the quality of our lives, depends, to a large extent, upon the quality of those with whom we choose to surround ourselves"!! CCS is a perfect example of that axiom!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Hoping to perhaps head back down to the cabin next weekend, providing the weather cooperates. Looking forward to being there again. Have to take some different stoves with me.
Still haven't been back to the cabin since this excursion. We are definitely going next weekend. Three day weekend, so it should be a relaxing get away. Extended forecast says a high of 78-80, so not bad. Of course, that's still a week away, and who knows what will happen by then, weather or otherwise. Looking forward to taking a few different stoves. Now, what to take...
Went back to the cabin this past weekend. Didn't use the stoves too much, but it was fun making chili over the fire:
Thanks guys, appreciate it. It was excellent. I know it's not a stove, but still fun cooking over a fire outdoors.
We always cooked over an open fire. I got my first stove, a Canadian Solus discus, when I got married. Thanks for the wonderful photos, I almost feel like I am there. How hot was that chilli? If that red powder was all chilli then I am in admiration of your fortitude. Keep posting, it adds a lot of cheer to the world.
Thanks. It wasn't too spicy. My wife loves spicy food, I do not, but I don't mind a little kick, so that's what she does.
Thanks @The Warrior , great time and pics. FYI, I just received from Tilley Lamps and Stoves a nice little brass trivet for the 00. Might solve your kettle issue.
Warrior where abouts is your main cabin? What is that red stuff you have put all over those really great looking potatoes? I see you also seem to like it over other foods too. Were i you i'd replace it with BBQ sauce. Tastes better and really that is what eating out of a pot or pan over a fire is about. Stay safe Lance
