Got my hands on this steel tanked piece of military kit . Stamped 1944 and with SH&H markings on the tank and burner cup. At first I thought that the «B» after the SH&S in the triangle was a model designation. The penny dropped however and I realised that it is B-for-Birmingham . Duh! These pictures are of the stove «as found» . Would like some advice on two things . Firstly the over pressure valve on the filler cap is leaking . Any ideas on how to fix this ? The other thing is about restoration . The stove is in pretty good condition and will clean up no bother however what should I do about the paint ? If I remove it to bare metal , then I am unsure about damage to the transfers. The transfers are worn but readable and are very much part of the stoves history . If I repaint the tank I could mask and protect the transfers but then I’d have nice new paint and shabby transfers . The third alternative is clean it and leave it as is . All advice, opinions and tips are most welcome . Cheers Alastair
@kerophile . Thanks that is exactly what I needed would never have thought of thread lock . Will get the acetone down from the high shelf tomorrow
@A A C If the stove was mine, I would carefully clean it with warm water and soap; I would mask the surrounds of the transfer(s) and apply clear coat over them to protect them; and I would then use bees wax polish over the paintwork to protect the paint and metal. Cheers Tony
@Tony Press . Thanks for your input Tony. I am pretty sure this is the direction I am going in . The clear coat on the transfers sounds like a very good idea. There are two sets of transfers so they take up almost two thirds of the sides of the tank. I have some beeswax polish somewhere . Will get the SRV sorted and clean / de-coke the burner (it’s filthy) then start on the tank . Thank you for sharing your knowledge . Cheers Alastair
