Just received a single burner Jet Gaz 'Fan Fan' stove, which I assumed was French. However the packaging states Dudley Hill Engineering Co Ltd, Goswell Rd, London.

It appears from this post here that Dudley did indeed manufacture portable gas stoves. The packaging is all in English with English (post decimal - 1971) prices and an Anglocentric tone to the text. However the instructions are in multiple languages and were printed in Wissembourg (France).

Can anyone shed any more light on this, as I would like to know where to post the instructions that I have.

Hi Duncan, a conundrum I encountered in THIS post. Jet Gaz is certainly has a French manufacturer. I thought it possible that Dudley Engineering manufactured it here, under licence. The gas carts certainly originate in France.

My feeling from the looks is that it's british made under french license as it doesn't have the typical CG detail touch.

    Thanks for the replies,
I have posted the instructions in 'other' countries, but the moderators may want to move it.

    Hi John @presscall , @Twoberth and @Lennart F ,

Well, I must admit that Jet Gaz is still a mystery for me. I assumed it was a french brand, but recently, on some random research on patents about gas stoves, I couldn't find any patent released by Jet Gaz. Maybe they didn't? I don't know. But it's quite surprising. What I know is that they bought other french brands, or at least they bought their models / their product lines, because in 1965 they clearly integrated some Butaflash products, re-branded Jet Gaz. Same happened between Prima-Camping and Relais Camping, apparently.

So I couldn't properly answer. But my guess is effectively that it's a french brand (I have a leaflet mentionning 20000 points of sale in France, and the other mention "broadcast abroad: refer to our points of sale list"), that could have let some of their products be manufactued unde license by some companies. Camping-Gaz did exactly the same thing in the 1980's or the 1990's: some stoves were made under license in germany, that you couldn't even find in France:

    Camping Gaz Int. Military ??

They also made a spirit / alcohol stove under license, which was clearly not made in France. It has the mention "vertrieb camping gaz" which means something like "distributed by camping gaz":

Hope this could help a little bit.

@presscall I'm glad to help, John. As soon as I'll get a proper scanner, I'll publish my documentation in the stove reference library. I'm starting to have some interesting catalogues / leaflets / advertisements, that could help people here to identify their stoves, and also put some datation on it.

I think it looks like Desca - CG may have done like many other companies and bought a GDR factory in the big sale about 1990.
