@Spiritburner I own a LOT of your seals (David M. from Carson California) and plan on using what I've got in stock from you. Yes you are absolutely correct. This had shoe leather (shiny on one side, fuzzy on the other) for a tank gasket and a similar in the connector for the burner to tank area. Shoe leather. I plan to use one of your lead rings. He included a spanner to tighten the fuel cap modification. Whomever had this stove before me was trying everything and anything to get it going.
The ones I have repaired, that end cap was hard to get centered if it was needed to be removed, too much of a gap. Have never had to work on a 111 or 43. I may have heated one tube too much and had the end cap drop off. Oops! I think it was due to heating up my NRV tool too much and it melted the solder when trying to loosen up a very stuck NRV. Duane
@Remus1956 You are more than equal to this current challenge my friend. These challenges are sent to try our skills…this is exactly how we become better at what we do and we learn along the way, honing our skills as we do so. So…remove the pump tube, correct the NRV seating, test and then re-solder the tube back in. Retest. Hard part then successfully completed and the prettying up process of the stove can begin. Had a stove where two of the three legs has been absolutely caked in excess solder. So heated each leg up and removed them, removing all the solder as well with my manual solder sucker tool so I could then neatly resolder the legs back on. Easy peasy stuff. If you use one, go for the type where the silicone sucking tip has a large hole so it does not block up. Very easy using one of these to remove the excess solder on your tank if that is what you would want to do. Your 43E is definitely worth the effort to have it up and running. Pharael.
@Pharael @hikerduane @Spiritburner I damn did it! No bubbles at 70 pumps! @Pharael you were absolutely right....and I also had a bad nrv. So....I heated the damned tank again and pulled the pump. Wish I took a photo of the cap but it was straight and has one of the best soldering jobs I've done still intact. With the nrv installed I filled it with water and blew on it. And shot water all over my shirt The hell?? So it came out of the nrv (dipped into flour to see where the seep was). So the nrv was the original... rebuilt but seemed to be deeper into the tube than the pip usually is. So I just exchanged it for a completely new nrv I got out of Japan. Held pressure for my mouth so installed a pump and got hydro lock (no water leak) Took the nrv back out...packed it with soggy paper...cleaned the tube again and fluxed... Got it in straight the first time so went to install a cap and pump...70 pumps and held it in water for 5 minutes... Not a bubble. Took it out....loud hiss when removing the cap. Jesus Christ.... Thanks for the vote of confidence from you all....I was about to just send it off to someone who wanted to try it. I've got burned fingers... scratches and soaked bandaids but I got the damned thing to hold pressure! Next is boil the burner in citric acid... electrolysis on the box! Thanks all!
@Remus1956 Very well done . You kept at it and you successfully sorted and resolved the issue. Next time you need to remove a pump tube (that’ll be when you get a Burmos heh heh..) all this experience will hold you in very good stead. Pharael.
More fun but this is the easy part.... Stuffing box nut was also either glued or soldered...had to heat it up to get it off... After ran it in citric acid ..and the spirit cup and nut came apart. Silbrazed them together and leveled them out in my vise. Had to use a 111 stuffing box nut but the rest was ok... surprise was the needle was intact. New graphite and now just looking for a pencil with an eraser to install the cleaning needle and jet.
@Remus1956 You are very welcome! I love the look of a cherry red flame spreader… Most excellent Pharael
@hikerduane that's a compliment! Much appreciated and if you ever need a panic silbraze let me know haha
@Spiritburner thank you! Btw the burner lead ring you have for the Optimus 00 is a perfect fit for the connection between the burner and the tank. Glad a had a few from my last order
@Sellig33 I have already run this 5 times and not a hitch. Very happy. Runs really nice Next is the tin... There's a lot of surface rust under the paint... No holes ..so should be a strip and paint job. Pretty easy at this point. Just waiting on the electrolysis tank to do the job.
@Pharael post note....wife wanted me to call her at work if I got it working haha... She's picking the color ...I just said "pick something that will not get me sick...I don't need to find it in the dark" We will see what she picks
