    Hi Guys,
Thought i would post some pics of my £10 Primus No5 silent burner now that i have got it fettled. With grateful thanks to Bill (Parramethtrol) and George (Kerophile) for the materials they generously sent me and the advice they gave. . Its the first full fettle i've done. I replaced all washers and seals, the rubber pip in the nrv, and swapped the broken spring in the nrv with a chopped down one out of a biro! You can see the progress from the pics, from when it arrived, then finally passing Kerophiles tea-test with flying colours!

    All the Best,
    Alan

    Hey, Alan,

HOLY MOLY!! What a difference, Mate!! Well done!!! I am sincerely impressed by the care you showed in getting this Old Timer back to the front of the pack, Alan! We have an old ugly #5, that's from 1934, IIRC, and it works so very well, Sweet Bride and I decided to just leave it in it's patina, as it has earned it. But, your #5 is a showcase stove, now, AND it works like gangbusters, too!! Very nice, indeed! Thanks for sharing it with us, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

Nice one mate, That looks well, I have just brought another stove from the bay of evil, so I'm hoping to do a full pictorial restoration, I have also to go and "See a man about a dog" this Thursday (Mansfieldian for I'm out wheeling and dealing). I'm hoping to pick up one or two stoves off him. I'll post more at the end of the week.

Hi Alan, Congratulations on a fine fettle.
This looks to be one of the last Primus 5 stoves produced, perhaps from the 1960s. If there is a date code it is likely to be six digits, the last two of which are the year of manufacture. This code could be on the filling nozzle or the riser tube.
    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

    Hi Guys,
Thank you all for your kind words, can't wait to start my next one now, a Monitor Picnic. :)
George and Ross, i have looked very carefully on the base, riser tube and filler nozzle, but can't find any date code. I seem to recall reading somewhere on here that some of the later ones were only date-stamped on the box, so i assume this is one of them.

    Best Regards to All,
    Alan
