They do get hard with age and then will leak, and you lose a full can of gas !
The Trangia bottle is fine with Coleman / Petrol etc for storage only, and works even better if you fit a short length of plastic tubing:

I would say the Valor's problem is likely to be the filler cap gasket . . . you can pump all you like but if that is hard the flame will never last.
It is possible to straighten twisted burners. If you hold them in a vice, apply plenty of heat, and the untwist them a very little at a time they...

I use 3 in 1 as well, and in fact storing your leathers in it, in pots, means that they are well soaked, and always ready for use :D/
