You seem to have several 17Bs.
Can you tell me roughly how far the top of the lipstick protrudes through the opening in the bell?
I dug one out yesterday and the lippy sticks through the opening by a fair amount, shortening the distance from the jet to the flame plate.
The bell has been cut vertically to make it easy to remove from the lipstick and I believe this allows it to go on too far?
Your input will be much appreciated .

    Hi Nick,
The vertical slot was a factory made change at the time the captive flame plate was introduced, so if the bell and lipstick are in good condition the slot shouldn’t allow the lipstick to protrude any more than with burners with no vertical slot.
The outer parts of the lipstick rounded top should fit snugly into the hole in the top of the burner bell stem so that the centre jet hole sits about a millimetre or so above the hole. Having said that, the lipstick protrusion is not critical in getting a clear blue flame.
I have fitted lipsticks with conventional stove nipples which protrude about 5mm above the burner hole and I can still get a good flame by raising the centre of the flame plate slightly.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies I have had another look at the burner bell/ lipstick and fired the stove again and I get a lovely blue flame so sticking to the “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” principle I will leave well alone!
Unfortunately the stove has suffered a spontaneous disassembly losing a couple of legs at some stage and some poor solder repairs have made the pot supports a bit uneven so I may try and sort those out.

I am impressed with the quality of these monitors heavy gauge brass etc. It’s a pity that they did not stretch to some nice engraving on the tank, but you cannot have it all ways.
    Cheers Nick
