    Hello all,

As part of my cunning plan not to buy any more stoves for a while I found this Optimus 5S on eBay for a whopping £4. I actually bought it as the parts donor for my late 1950s 5 which is missing a silent burner. So… it arrived today and I think, looking at the filler cap and other features such as flush filler, that it’s possibly pre-1930.

In which case it definitely can’t be used as spares and needs to be restored in its own right! Ho hum…

Anyway, a few views of it and the salient features. Happy to be corrected if not pre-1930 (which would make it the oldest stove in my collection)

    best, Chris

Apparently it works quite well after a seal change … :)

Looking good. Can you clean up that area on the bottom to see if there is a date code, being careful to not disturb the patina too much?
Sorry, not a Primus who uses a code.

Just can't stop yourself, can you!

Isn't that style of filler cap great, with the fine diagonal knurling.

Could you add a photo showing the riser more clearly, it looks like the older type of unreinforced riser to tank joint?

As for not being able to stop myself I promise I only got it for spares… how was I to know it was going to be a keeper… ah well, another one back in action. Now do I keep that patina or not ?
