Picked this up but I think it's a bitsof The pump rod has a bakelite knob and the trivet is cast iron. The air release screw has optimus and Stockholm are these correct for this stove? And the legs were badly repaired the burner is primus stamped ABl
Hi comparing your stove to a no5 AA the pump rod and knob should be brass, the pump cap looks right the knurling is the same on mine the air release should say PRIMUS and SWEDEN on the reverse. I don’t know when the trivets stopped being cast iron but in the 30s. I think the burner is ok because I believe they were made in separate batches and put together later ie could be Dec 37 and January 38. I think the trivet is cool! The pump could be Parasene or similar, is the pump cup held on with a split pin?
@Firestarter the pump rod has a split pin so looks like it's been replaced with a parasene pump rod. The air release screw? Which stoves had this type with optimus and Stockholm on them. Would the trivet be old stock for a 1938 stove
Hi Dave I’m not a big collector so have had to rummage through some stoves I have one Optimus No 1 superscript which has that airscrew and I would think Optimus 1&5 and others also. Looking through the reference gallery I think your trivet is earlier than your stove although I have a W(1932) no 7 with a cast iron trivet they stayed with cast iron later than the smaller stoves I think. Sorry that’s not more helpful but there are others on here who know much more than me.
I have a "B" Primus No.1 (i.e. 1912) with the same trivet. Apart from the Bakelite pump handle, I believe you have a pretty original/authentic Primus No.1. Sorry, it is a 1938 (my last message was nonsensical).
Yes. I have the same air release screw. It works very well and I cannot see Primus changing it between 1912 and 1938. Perhaps, if you look at the Stove Reference Gallery on this site, you may find another example of a 1938 No.1. Regards, Jaime.
@Jaime Massang I've seen no2 from the 30s with a cast trivet and a no3 from 50s with a bakelite pump knob in the gallery but can't find a air release screw with primus on 1 side and Stockholm on the other side all I can find is primus and Sweden
No, it clearly says Optimus/Stockholm, so it's not original to your stove, though it is interchangeable with it - i.e. it works. Primus airscrews from that period say Primus/Sweden right up to about 1955 (and before 1930)..Peter
Hi I think you are talking at cross purposes . Optimus stoves say Optimus and Primus stoves say Primus. Early stoves say PRIMUS on both sides later ones say PRIMUS SWEDEN . Optimus stoves say OPTIMUS STOCKHOLM like the one at the top of the stove forum. Your Primus stove is fitted with an Optimus air screw which is incorrect. Base camp have second hand filler caps and pump rods so may have a Primus air release Ask for best used also may have the correct pump rod otherwise both are quite common on Ebay
Yes. That is right. I didn't spot the Optimus brand on your air screw (not opening up the thumbnail images). Interetingly, my Burmos air screw fits the Primus perfectly and vice versa. My Primus air screw is marked 'PRIMUS' only on one face and blank on the other.
